In nature, there are surprising forms that are the result, in many cases, of many years of various forms of erosion.
Karst erosion is the erosion of limestone rocks by water, which in many places has created enormous natural arches. One such arch is Shegeng Chuandong in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southern mainland China. This arch was formed by water erosion on a karst ridge in Fengcong. This arch is part of the Leye-Fengshan National Geopark, which has striking mountain landscapes that look like something out of a fantasy film.
The arch has a span of about 55 meters, is about 142 meters wide, and is 239 meters long. A paved road runs beneath it, and there is a parking and climbing area. There is also a monument to the fallen communists of the Chinese Civil War (1927–1936 and 1945–1949), which led to the current division of the country into two independent states: the Republic of China (Taiwan, a democratic country, ruled from Taipei) and the People's Republic of China (a communist dictatorship ruled from Beijing and covering mainland China).
A few days ago, the Chinese YouTube channel Motorbike and Drone published a video of themselves visiting this natural arch. Considering that it was a video recorded during a dictatorship that blatantly indoctrinates and manipulates, it's no surprise to see a bit of communist propaganda when talking about the monument, claiming that it is dedicated to those who fell in a war between "peasants" and "landowners," whom they call "gangsters" (in reality, the fight was between communists and nationalists):
You can see some screenshots from this video here as a preview. Here we see the north face of the arch, with the winding road that leads up to it from the nearby town.
The inside of Shegeng Chuandong Arch. There isn't much information about this place on Western websites, but it seems to be a popular destination for climbers.
The monument to the fallen communists of the Chinese Civil War. It is a small monolith with the shape of a red flame at its highest point.
The south face of Shegeng Chuandong. From this spot, you can see a very exotic landscape in the video.
