Galicia is the most beautiful region in Spain (coincidentally, it's my homeland) and has many places worth visiting.
There's a city I have a special affection for (besides Vigo, of course, which is where I was born). That city is in the south of the province of Pontevedra, next to the border with Portugal. A border that in this case has water, as it coincides here with the Miño River.
This is a city full of curious things. For example, it has a medieval cathedral with battlements like a castle.
Behind that cathedral are old winding streets where you can take peaceful strolls, both at night and during the day.
Next to the city, and within its municipal boundaries, there is a mountain that I have visited countless times since I was a child.
On this mountain there are very exotic viewpoints, which seem like something out of a story.
And there are some amazing views too, although sometimes in summer they are somewhat obscured by smoke from the forest fires in Portugal.
It's an ideal mountain for walking, for resting, for running, for eating (there are stone tables for this), and for playing, if you're a child (or if you're not but still like to play).
Those of you who are familiar with the area and those of you who have been reading this blog for years already know that I'm referring to Tuy (Tui, in Galician) and Mount Aloya (Aloia, in Galician), places I have associated with very fond memories. If you want to see them, last Sunday Fran and Ingrid (he is a Spaniard from Galicia and she is Estonian), published an interesting video touring this city and the aforementioned mountain (the video is in Spanish, you can activate automatic English subtitles in the bottom bar of the player):
