There are buildings that are astonishing not because of their design or the materials used, but because of their unusual locations.

The strange case of a beacon in the middle of a desert and more than 160 km from the coast
Two houses swallowed up by nature in the domains of the mythical Asturian busgoso

Such is the case of a five-story concrete building abandoned in a remote mountain gorge in Guizhou Province, inland on the Chinese mainland. A few weeks ago, a Chinese YouTuber, Qingyunji Xiaoxue, posted a video exploring this enigmatic construction, noting: "The house has five floors in total, and each floor has three windows that cleverly open. Looking around, there is no human population for miles around. It really makes people wonder: why build such a house in such a strange and dangerous place?"

This girl's exploration sheds some light on the building: it appears to have been a salamander breeding ground. At the back of the building is a concrete wall behind which is a water tank, which filters its contents into a series of containers located on each floor. Next to the building is a waterfall, above which is a balcony. A strange construction that you can see in more detail here (the video is in Chinese; you can activate the automatic English subtitles in the bottom bar of the player):

You can see some screenshots from this video here. Here we see the strange location of the building, practically hidden in a mountain.

The building appears to have been built using a natural cavern and a stream of water that flowed from its interior to the waterfall next to it.

The building is devoid of any adornment. It is a concrete construction where only functionality has taken precedence.

Some curious signs on the entrance door. One of them orders silence and another prohibits taking photos. Why so much mystery about a salamander farm?
