“Since there is electricity, there are blackouts”: the left-wing tries to normalize a disaster

A blackout of this magnitude was something that until now only seemed possible in the most dire predictions. In 2022, Pedro Sánchez said that something like this would not happen in Spain, attacking "the right and the far right" for claiming that something like this could happen because of the socialist government's decision to close nuclear power plants, which provide stability to our electricity grid. But it finally happened, and now the left has decided that it is not that serious, activating its entire synchronized opinion team to do so.

As has happened before in the face of the disastrous effects of its political prescriptions, government-friendly media have already launched a propaganda campaign to normalize the disaster and make something as abnormal as a nationwide blackout seem unimportant, perhaps because they expect it to happen again, which is most likely considering the government's inability to clarify the cause of what happened. Or rather, it's unwilling to clarify it, as that would be admitting a mistake.

Yesterday, on La Sexta, the program El Intermedio, hosted by one of the government's biggest supporters (José Miguel Monzón, alias "El Gran Wyoming"), made fun of the blackout and said: "Since there is electricity, there are blackouts." As an example, they mentioned a blackout in India in 2012 and four major blackouts in New York. Not a single example of a national blackout in a Western country until this Monday, but it doesn't matter. For La Sexta, the important thing is to defend the government by any means, the arguments are the least of it.

Those from 'Nunca Máis' now talk about 'blackout scavengers'

This Tuesday, another pro-government outlet, El Huff Post, called opposition politicians "blackout scavengers" for their criticism of Sánchez following a blackout that he had denied could occur. Let's remember that it is the same left that organized huge 'Nunca Máis' (Never Again) demonstrations over the sinking of the Prestige oil tanker in 2002 off the coast of Galicia, a wave of protests that was repeated in 2017 over the forest fires in this community, in both cases calling for the resignations of PP politicians. But if the disaster is caused by a decision by the Sánchez government, we all have to keep quiet here or we will be accused of being "scavengers".

RTVE consults an anti-capitalist about nationalizing electricity generation

On RTVE, the large state-owned media group paid for by all taxpayers and controlled by the Sánchez government, the program of the leftist Jesús Cintora yesterday proposed the nationalization of electricity generation as a solution (it's not enough for them that the PSOE has placed the president of Red Eléctrica de España: they still want more). He made that suggestion after consulting a man who in 2014 defended degrowth, stating that "the world is headed for a hard and prolonged degrowth", and who in 2022 stated that the capitalist system "is unsustainable". He is an example of the curious "experts", always on the left, that RTVE consults on a daily basis.

SER turns to a philosopher to criticize nuclear energy

Finally, yesterday another pro-government media outlet, Cadena SER, consulted a philosopher: "If we only had nuclear power, it would have taken us many more hours to recover energy". That same day, just an hour earlier, Alfredo García, a reactor operator at a nuclear power plant, pointed out: "Fully operational nuclear power plants would have made a blackout less likely". In fact, France has 56 nuclear power plants and this problem has occurred in Spain, which only has 7 and is in the process of closing. But what does reality matter? The socialist media have been using propaganda for years to deny all kinds of facts, in a constant attempt to defend the actions of the Sánchez government, which is showering them with a millionaire's worth of manna in the form of institutional advertising. So if blackouts need to be normalized, they'll be normalized. All for socialism.
