A government that never admits to having made any mistakes

In Spain, many people don't seem to want to see the extremes to which this toxic and uncritical way of understanding politics is leading us, according to which Pedro Sánchez's government never makes mistakes, does everything right, and if something serious happens related to the measures it has taken, no one resigns and the blame always falls on someone else.

If we lead Europe in unemployment, the fault lies not with the government or the measures it has been taking to make labor contracts more expensive. If Spain is among the five European countries with the highest public debt, it's not the government's fault for irresponsibly squandering our money and spending more than it earns. If the government took 4 days to make a large military deployment after the floods in Valencia, giving rise to looting in the affected area, there is no mistake to admit and the blame lies with others for not asking for help.

An unprecedented blackout, with deaths and no resignations

This Monday, Spain experienced a general blackout for the first time in its history, a situation that Pedro Sánchez denied could occur and that has occurred in the midst of his political commitment to close nuclear power plants, which provide stability to the electricity grid in Spain. This blackout has left several dead, but once again no one resigns here and the government does not admit any mistakes.

Left-wing voters and media that swallow everything

Obviously, the government isn't to blame alone. Those who vote for Sánchez would still support him even if he appeared live on television slapping a baby. With all the lies, abuses, and corruption cases he's accumulating, it's incomprehensible that the PSOE, Sánchez's party, continues to have the results it has in the polls. Many socialist voters don't care that Sánchez commits all kinds of misdeeds: if the left does it, then anything goes. It's a level of sectarianism that shows that the worst political polarization is that which affects the government's supporters.

This situation also occurs because many media outlets act as propaganda organs at the service of the socialists, paid for with our tax money. Something that in state media, such as RTVE, reaches purely obscene extremes and is reminiscent of the official television channels of some dictatorships, swallowing all the government's lies without complaint, just as their voters do.

A toxic way of governing that is degrading our democracy

All of this shouldn't happen in a democracy, where politicians are expected to take responsibility for wrongdoing and resign. This pernicious habit of the Spanish left, which refuses to admit any mistakes, is yet another example of its campaign to degrade our democracy, eroding our institutions so that no one can hold the government accountable for anything, no matter how bad and damaging its actions. With this way of governing, it's only natural that more and more Spaniards will lose faith in their institutions.

When Sánchez is ousted from power, that will be one of the next government's most difficult challenges, if it truly wants to implement change and not merely transition power.
