A colossal infamy that only received rejection from the PP, Vox and UPN

The left attacks press freedom alongside a party that does not condemn the murders of two Spanish journalists

Yesterday, Congress was once again the scene of a demonstration of the threat posed to democracy in Spain.

A reform promoted by the PSOE, Bildu and other allies of Sánchez

The plenary session of Congress voted this Tuesday to consider proposal 410/000007 to reform the regulations of the Lower House. This is an initiative promoted by the Socialist Party (PSOE) together with its separatist and far-left partners, including the heirs of ETA. The proposal was published on April 1 by the Official Gazette of the Cortes Generales (see PDF), and in it "Euskal Herria Bildu" appears as the fifth of the groups that authored that text.

The left will decide which journalists are truthful and which cannot report to Congress

This proposal assigns the Congressional Board, controlled by the left, the responsibility for accrediting journalists in that chamber. Regarding the granting of credentials to journalists working in Congress, the text states that the Board "will establish the requirements that are enforceable, taking into account the need to respect the right to truthful information and the proper functioning of the Chamber." That is, a left that systematically lies will be the one to decide which journalists are "truthful" and which journalists do not deserve accreditation. The text imposes strict control on journalists over where they can and cannot record or take photos, and may suspend the credentials of any media outlet that is inconvenient for the left.

Furthermore, the text ensures that no deputy will be able to take images or recordings with their mobile phone, stating: "No one may, without the corresponding credentials, make graphic or sound recordings within the premises of the Chamber." In this way, the left and the separatists impose strict censorship in Congress and ensure that they have control of all the information that may arise within it. All of this amid corruption scandals involving the Socialists, which have led the government to attack the media for reporting on it and announce a "Gag Plan" that imitates measures used by Putin's dictatorship in Russia.

A gag that has received shameful support from some media outlets

This reform has been promoted by the left to put a stop to journalists asking uncomfortable questions to socialists and their allies, for which media outlets close to the government (and even some close to the Popular Party) have been preparing the environment by labeling these media outlets as "agitators." In the end, with this campaign some media outlets have ended up putting the right to censor their work in the hands of the left, a shot in the foot that demonstrates to what extent certain Cainite attitudes within journalism are contributing to undermining our fundamental freedoms and rights.

What each of the parties voted for

The most grotesque aspect of this reform is who supported it. The results of the vote can be seen here (see PDF). The Popular Party (PP), Vox, and the Navarrese People's Union (UPN) voted against it. Significantly, these are parties that have been falsely described by the left as "fascist." The PSOE, Sumar, ERC, Junts, Podemos, Bildu, PNV, BNG and Coalición Canaria (CC) have supported this gag order on the media. This is not surprising in some of these parties, which openly support dictatorships such as communist China, Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua. PNV and CC have joined this libertarian left once again, something they will have to explain to their voters.

Bildu, which does not condemn the murder of two journalists, supported this gag order

Special mention should be made of one of the parties that supported this infamy. EH Bildu has never condemned any of the 853 murders carried out by the terrorist group ETA, not even the 22 murders that claimed children and babies. It should be remembered that these 853 crimes include the murders of two journalists: José María Portell Manso, director of the Bilbao newspaper Hoja del Lunes (shot dead in Bilbao on June 28, 1978), and José Luis López de la Calle, columnist for the newspaper El Mundo and founder of the Ermua Forum (shot dead in Andoáin on May 7, 2000). ETA also threatened to kill and attempted to kill other journalists because they were annoying to the criminal gang.

Yesterday, the left and the separatists had no qualms about joining forces with a party that doesn't condemn these crimes to impose a gag order on journalism. With this, the parties and each of the deputies who supported this reform made their curious idea of democracy, human rights, and press freedom very clear. After so much talk of "fascism," they've ended up acting like the fascism they pretend to detest.
