Ben Shapiro's speech criticizing Tucker Carlson as 'an opponent of conservatism'

The conservative movement is suffering a series of attempts at distortion in the United States and in other countries, including Spain.

One of the people who best exemplifies these attempts at distortion is the American commentator Tucker Carlson. In the last two years I have already dedicated several articles here criticizing his rapprochement with Russia and the dictator Putin, his hoaxes and manipulations, and warning about his nefarious influence on the conservative right.

Unfortunately, Carlson has managed to deceive many conservatives in the US and other countries, generally using conspiracy theories for which he never provides the slightest proof or even any indication, but with which he has managed to get many closer to positions close to Putinism and antisemitism and to assume typical postulates of the far-left, in the name of criticisms of liberal democracy, the free market and the West with which finally Carlson has even shown his sympathy for the Islamist dictatorship of Qatar; one has to wonder if he did it for free.

Yesterday, one of the leading organizations in the USA, The Heritage Foundation (which is also suffering from these attempts at distortion), hosted a lecture by conservative commentator Ben Shapiro to present his book "Lions and Scavengers: The True Story of America (and Her Critics)". Shapiro devoted a considerable portion of his presentation to criticizing Carlson, whom he defined as "an opponent of conservatism," stating the following:

If we care about conservatism, if, as Heritage Foundation proclaims, our goal ought to be to formulate and promote conservative public policies based on the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values and a strong national defense, then we must stand up against those who would pervert and twist the conservative movement into a movement without principles, or worse, a movement that promotes the very opposite of the principles that conservatives hold dear.

During his speech, Shaphiro denounced Carlson's rapprochement with the dictatorships of Russia and Qatar, his support for feudalism, antisemitism and nazism (giving a platform to commentators very close to that hateful ideology or who excuse its crimes, such as Darryl Cooper and Nick Fuentes), his elaborate conspiracy theories designed to discredit liberal democracy and his increasing alignment with political positions very similar to those of the far left.

Ben Shapiro's words are a necessary wake-up call from conservative liberalism in the face of the strange drift of a segment of the right, both in the United States and in other countries, which has allowed itself to be entangled in the webs of Russian propaganda, anti-Semitic propaganda (a large part of it financed and promoted by Islamist dictatorships such as Qatar and Iran) and also the anti-liberal and anti-Western propaganda of such infamous figures as Aleksandr Dugin, about whom I already spoke to you here two years ago.

Three years ago I also warned here about the conspiracy theories that Putin's dictatorship was promoting in the West, in order to attract people from the left and right towards theses favorable to the lying narrative of Putinism. Last year I warned that this view sees conspiracies everywhere except in Russia, questioning all official narratives except those of the Kremlin, a regime that resorts to lying systematically and with increasing brazenness. Since some are so fond of conspiracies, they might ask: what place should Carlson occupy in these convoluted theories, while he dedicates himself to distorting conservatism and discrediting the West to favor some of its greatest enemies?
