Since October 7, 2023, many masks have fallen away

Imagine if the Holocaust were broadcast on TV and today Germany declared itself a victim

The 20th century witnessed one of the greatest genocides in history, in which millions of people were exterminated on an industrial scale.

Who has committed crimes of genocide, Israel or Hamas? What the facts indicate

Could the Holocaust be repeated today?

The Holocaust remains a disturbing subject for the world today, especially for the West. When you read a little about it, you begin to ask yourself some logical questions: How could a European country descend to such a level of brutality? How could so many people in Germany turn a blind eye to what was happening? And how is it possible that with so much evidence of this genocide, there are still people who deny it? But there is one question that many avoid, because they think we live in a morally superior society that has overcome that era of barbarity: Could the Holocaust be repeated today?

A criminal group that set out to annihilate the Jews

That last question was answered on October 7, 2023, when the terrorist organization Hamas, an Islamist and radically Judeophobic criminal group, perpetrated the largest terrorist attack suffered by the State of Israel (taking into account the number of dead and the population of that country, it is proportionally larger than the attacks of September 11, 2001 against the United States) and the largest anti-Semitic massacre perpetrated since the Holocaust.

Although there was a considerable quantitative difference between the two massacres. In its founding charter, Hamas called for the killing of all Jews and over the years that criminal organization has made repeated calls to annihilate Jews and Israel, but obviously those Islamist terrorists have neither the power nor the resources of the Third Reich. That alone prevented the victims of the October 7, 2023 massacre from reaching millions, because regardless of the means, Hamas shares with Nazism its goal of exterminating the Jewish people. It made that abundantly clear with the actions of that massacre.

An anti-Semitic massacre recorded and broadcast by its perpetrators

On the other hand, Hamas's attack against Israel had another difference from the Holocaust: the Nazis did not televise and carried out their "Final Solution" (as they cynically called the extermination of six million Jews), but Hamas terrorists recorded their atrocities with GoPro cameras and even broadcast their crimes live via Facebook using the accounts of their own victims. The purpose of all this was clear: Hamas wanted to show the world how it tortured, raped, and murdered its victims in the most brutal ways, including its sexual violence against Jewish women. These atrocities are documented in a report published by the NGO The Civil Commission, which has detailed in almost 300 pages the mass rapes and torture suffered by women at the hands of Hamas in that massacre, crimes denied by Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Palestinian territories, which Pedro Sánchez recently awarded with the Order of Civil Merit.

A crime of genocide covered up with slander against the country that suffered it

A few days after that massacre, hundreds of jurists from 22 nations accused Hamas of genocidal crimes against Israel. That accusation was silenced by the vast majority of the media. In the following years, we have witnessed a scandalous media blackout of Hamas's crimes, accompanied by a massive dissemination of these terrorists' propaganda to portray Gaza as the victim of "genocide," and not Israel. An accusation as false as it is cynical, which many have ended up accepting without question, ignoring the facts and simply trusting the false information spread by the perpetrators of the October 7 massacre.

So, we now have an answer to that question that many avoid: yes, today it would be possible for the Holocaust to be repeated, which was an act of extermination of Jews with the purpose of making that people disappear from the face of the Earth. This new Holocaust was recorded and broadcast by its own perpetrators, and far from provoking horror and rejection, people who are now ministers in the Spanish government refused to condemn this massacre and one even justified it. It is the same government that a few days ago awarded a medal to a fanatical anti-Semite for dedicating herself to defaming the country that suffered those horrendous crimes.

Today many would applaud the Holocaust and consider Germany a victim

Today we can be certain that if the Nazis had broadcast the Holocaust on television —a mass medium as powerful as the internet and one that already existed at the time— many would not only have failed to condemn it but would have even applauded it. Similarly, recent events have shown us that many media outlets would question any accusations made by Jews against the Third Reich, while simultaneously disseminating Hitler's dictatorship's version of events without question, showing us German cities destroyed by Allied bombing to make us believe that what happened was not a genocide against Jews, but against Germans.

Since October 7, 2023, many masks have fallen from those who claimed to be tolerant and defenders of human rights, people who said they rejected antisemitism and abhorred Nazi crimes. It was all a big lie. A few years ago, many of us seriously believed that we lived in a time morally superior to 1945 and in which something like the Holocaust could not be repeated, but what has happened with the crimes of Hamas, with the smear campaign against Israel, and with the brutal wave of antisemitism unleashed by Hamas supporters (not to mention the Russian crimes in Ukraine, often silenced by many media outlets today), leaves no room for doubt: we were very wrong.
