Trump's worrying statements about Taiwan after visiting dictator Xi Jinping

This week, the US president traveled to mainland China, which has been under a communist dictatorship since 1949.

During this trip, Trump met with Chinese dictator Xi Jinping. After that summit, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio asserted that his country's position on Taiwan had not changed. On this policy, four years ago I wrote here that during his first term Trump promoted a rapprochement with the Republic of China (Taiwan) that continued during Joe Biden's term, a correct course to avoid the serious mistake made by Jimmy Carter in 1979 when he decided to break with Taiwan and get closer to communist China.

After his meeting with Xi Jinping, Trump gave an interview to Fox News (you can watch it above) in which he said things about Taiwan such as that the Chinese "don't want to see to see it go independent" (Taiwan has been an independent country since 1949, although the Beijing dictatorship pretends not to know this) and said that Taiwan wants to become independent because it has the support of the United States, to which Trump warned: "China is a very, very powerful and big country. That’s a very small island. Think about it; it's 59 miles away. We're 9,500 miles away. That’s a little bit of a difficult problem."

These words from Trump already made clear a change of attitude regarding Taiwan, but the US president made it even clearer when he added: "If you look at the history of Taiwan, Taiwan was developed because we had presidents that didn’t know what the hell they were doing," and finally added the following statement against that country, which is an ally of the United States: "They stole our chip industry."

We are seeing something very similar to what already happened between Trump and Putin: after boasting of strength and wanting to make America great again, the President of the United States visited the Russian dictator and ended up giving in to his demands and betraying Ukraine, doing a great favor to America's main strategic enemy in Europe. Now Trump is doing the same with communist China and free China (Taiwan). This is not making America great again. This is making America's and the West's enemies stronger.
