The Spanish Navy has experienced a purely shameful situation related to the impunity of drug traffickers in Spain.

This Saturday, Diario de Cádiz reported the theft of three Spanish Navy patrol boats from the Sierra del Retín training area in Barbate (Cádiz). The theft was carried out by drug traffickers from the area. In addition to the boats, all the equipment on board was stolen, including 11 dry suits valued at €1,800 each and tracking equipment. The theft took place during the Flotex-26 maneuvers, developed between May 11 and 22 in the Gulf of Cadiz, the Alboran Sea and the Strait of Gibraltar.

The boats, belonging to the Marine Infrantry Corps, had been camouflaged after a landing exercise. It is frankly alarming that drug traffickers are so emboldened that they now dare to enter a military zone to commit a robbery of this nature.

This Sunday, Diario de Cádiz reported that the boats were recovered today by the Civil Guard near the Barbate sports center. They were located at 3:40 p.m. There are no arrests related to this theft at this time.

According to the aforementioned newspaper, the stolen boats have a single outboard motor and are operated by the Tactical Reconnaissance Unit, which is the former name of the Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance Company (TAR) of the Headquarters Battalion of the Tercio de Armada (TEAR).

The TAR Company uses Milpro EVOL 7 FC 470 Zodiac boats (above, we can see a photo published by the Spanish Navy showing this model). They are 4.7 meters long, 1.9 meters wide, and equipped with a 30 HP Evinrude E-TEC gasoline engine. Each of these boats can carry up to 10 people.

Congratulations to the Civil Guard for recovering these boats. Furthermore, it is hoped that those responsible will be held accountable for such a serious matter as the theft of three boats in a military zone. Finally, the impunity enjoyed by drug traffickers in the Strait of Gibraltar must end, but I fear that in this respect we are entering the realm of politics.

Let us recall that in October 2022, the government dismantled OCON-Sur, an elite anti-drug trafficking unit made up of 150 Civil Guards and which operated in the Campo de Gibraltar region. To this day, we still haven't received credible explanations about this great favor to drug traffickers operating between Morocco and Spain, precisely at a time when we are seeing increasingly unusual concessions from the Spanish government to that North African country after an alleged Moroccan blackmail of Pedro Sánchez.
