There are places that are special and always will be, just like some dates. It could have been any other day, but it was that one.
On May 31, 2025, on this very day, I took the photos you can see below. The first one was taken on Patos beach in Nigrán. In the background, you can see the Cíes Islands and to the left, the Monteferro peninsula.
This other photo I took from the Panjón seafront, also in Nigrán. We can see the lights of the port of Panjón and the Yacht Club building.
This last photo is of the port of Panjón. I didn't remember, but I just saw in the Faro de Vigo that Nigrán had a forecast of between 14 and 23ºC that day. It was a pleasant evening, perfect for a stroll, but there weren't many people around despite it being a Saturday.
I know these photos won't mean much to many people. I have them etched in my memory. That night was my father's last walk. Sadly, it didn't occur to me to take a picture of him that day. Everything seemed fine. That night, his poor health seemed to give him a break. He felt no pain. It's as if God granted him that last night in complete peace so that we wouldn't forget how important those pleasant moments are when everything is going well. The following night, June 1st, everything took a turn for the worse. My father started feeling unwell, and we had to call an ambulance. It was the first of his last two hospitalizations. On August 7th, he left us to go to the House of the Father.
Last night we went back to Patos and Panjón. The same walk we took with him a year ago. I won't say we took it without him: it's as if he were with us the whole time. He's in every bench he sat on, every sidewalk he walked along, every landscape we saw with him. Perhaps my mother won't like me writing all these details down, but I want to because I like to preserve good memories, for the day when my memory isn't as good as it is now. Thank you for my father, Lord, and for all the good times you allowed us to share with him.
