Currently led by Pedro Sánchez, the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) has often presented itself as the party of "equality", even to trample on it as brazenly as it did with the 2004 law on gender violence, which establishes different penalties depending on the sex of the person committing certain crimes. Yesterday, once again, all that false rhetoric was exposed.

Starting with the conclusion, it must be said that some police associations have been outraged by the judge's words. What should be truly outrageous is the level of politicization of certain police commanders, appointed by the government for political reasons, who have been involved in regrettable incidents in recent years. Nor should we forget that two years ago, three Catalan police officers were suspended for the escape of Carles Puigdemont, a fugitive from justice who entered and left Spain after making a public appearance without being arrested.

Furthermore, we didn't see these socialists make such a fuss in 2018 when a political rival, Eduardo Zaplana, was sentenced to provisional imprisonment due to risk of flight while suffering from leukemia. Ultimately, in every corruption case affecting the PSOE, we always find the same attitude: a socialist elite that believes itself above the law and seeks to enjoy privileges that other Spaniards do not have. In the end, the much-touted "equality" that the PSOE has been preaching for years seems to forget what can be read in Article 14 of the Constitution: "Spaniards are equal before the law, without any discrimination being permitted on account of birth, race, sex, religion, opinion or any other personal or social condition or circumstance."

What we saw yesterday, and what we will continue to see in the near future, is a shameless tantrum from a champagne socialist left that has always believed itself to be above everyone else, not only because of its generous salaries paid by all taxpayers, but also because of privileges that it invokes with utter shamelessness and with which, in the end, to paraphrase Orwell, it intends to convince us that here we are all equal, but that they are more equal than everyone else.
