This year, the Spanish Air Force has played a very prominent role at the ILA Berlin defense fair in the German capital.
This event featured its own air show, held from June 10 to 14 at Berlin-Schönefeld Airport. The Eurofighter program was very well represented, with four aircraft from the German Luftwaffe (specifically the 30+89, the 31+34, the 31+35 and the 31+31, with an elegant decoration commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Luftwaffe) and three aircraft from the Spanish Air Force.
Although the official program announced that Spain was going to send two aircraft to Berlin (one for static display and the other performing a flying demonstration), ultimately the Spanish Air Force sent the Eurofighters C.16-44 (14-44), C.16-47 (14-47) and C.16-66 (14-66), the latter with a beautiful decoration of drift commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 141 Squadron of Wing 14, based in Los Llanos (Albacete).
This year, with the cancellation of Europe's main air show (the Royal Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford, due to the large deployment of B-1B Lancer bombers at that British base because of the war between the US and Iran), this German festival took on special importance and the Spanish pilots were able to demonstrate their great skill, with three Eurofighter flight demonstrations on June 10, 12 and 14.
In these displays, Commander Juan Bengoechea, from the 14th Wing Demo Team and an experienced Spanish fighter pilot, left many spectators astonished. Airbus Defence posted this video of one of his flights on its Facebook page, seen from both outside and inside the cockpit of the C.16-44 (14-44):
Commander Bengoechea dedicated this flight to his father: "During the display, I had the opportunity to tell him something we probably haven't expressed enough: much of who I am and what I've achieved I owe to him, my mother, and the rest of my family. They are the ones who instilled in me a passion for aviation and always encouraged me to keep going. Love you all." His family must be very proud of him watching him fly. If you want to see his complete display, this Sunday Knight Flight Video posted this video of this fabulous display, which not only demonstrates the Eurofighter's great maneuverability but also the excellent skill and physical condition of its pilot:
