In the early hours of Friday, June 26, Spanish soldiers from the Military Emergency Unit (UME) flew to Venezuela.
On Thursday, two powerful earthquakes struck the coast of Venezuelathere are already more than 900 dead and 3,500 injured, but these numbers could rise significantly since, according to the UN, at least 50,000 people are missing. The situation in the country is dire.

In total, 59 soldiers and 8 dogs from the Military Emergency Unit (UME), along with 2 Spanish Army engineers, traveled to Venezuela aboard an A330 MRTT aircraft from the 45th Wing of the Spanish Air Force. They were accompanied by 40 members and 4 dogs from the Special Emergency and Immediate Response Unit (ERICAM) of the Community of Madrid. Both units already have experience in earthquake relief: three years ago the UME and ERICAM were already sent to Turkey to help the victims of two earthquakes recorded in that country on February 6, 2023.

This Saturday, at 1:34 PM CET, the Spanish Ministry of Defense published this video showing the situation the UME encountered in Venezuela:

Three hours ago, the UME (Military Emergency Unit) published some photos on Flickr taken in the La Guaira area, showing the reconnaissance work of Spanish soldiers in the affected area, specifically on the rubble that until a few days ago were residential buildings:
My prayers are with the people of Venezuela during these difficult times, and also with the Spanish soldiers and civilians who have traveled to that sister nation to help those affected. I hope they can save many lives.
