For the second time this week, the Spanish Armed Forces are observing a day of mourning due to the death of one of their members.
This afternoon at 1:52 PM CET, the Spanish Air Force announced: "With deep sorrow, we bid farewell to our comrade, Private Efrén Carazo, who died in a traffic accident while on his way to work. His camaraderie earned him the affection of all those who had the privilege of serving alongside him."
The media outlet Lavozdelsur.es has reported that the deceased, Efrén Carazo Fernández, was 29 years old, a resident of the town of Palma del Río (Córdoba) and was stationed at the Tablada Air Barracks, in Seville. The death of a person is always terrible, especially if it is a young person with their whole life ahead of them, but in this case there is another reason for pain: Efrén died this Tuesday after being run over by a van while he was next to his vehicle, which he had stopped on the A-4 highway, near Carmona (Seville), to change a tire. The driver who hit the man fled the scene, and the Civil Guard is trying to locate him. The first report of the hit-and-run came into the 112 Andalucía emergency service around 7:30 a.m., indicating that there was a man lying on the ground next to a vehicle.
I hope the Civil Guard manages to arrest the perpetrator of the hit-and-run. My condolences to the family and comrades of the deceased soldier. Grant him eternal rest, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon him. Rest in peace.
