An attack by a leftist journalist on Iker Jiménez backfires

Jordi Évole, or when it costs less to see a UFO than to see socialist corruption

The high priests of the Spanish left-wing media are baffled by their loss of influence among their followers.

Évole avoids labeling Ternera as a 'terrorist', but this is what he said about Ortega Lara's party

Yesterday a video was released in which one of those moral beacons of Spanish progressivism, Jordi Évole, stated: "What is very important for me, at a time like this, in which there is a dangerous rise in programs, in this case on television, that are completely blatantly poisoning the mind". He couldn't resist launching one of the Spanish left's favorite tactics, the ad hominem fallacy, against a communicator they find particularly annoying: "It's not very normal that, in this country, the man who used to explain to us that UFOs were coming, is now explaining the country's corruption."

Obviously, Évole is referring to Iker Jiménez, director of the mystery program "Cuarto Milenio" on the Cuatro channel, who is enjoying enormous success with a political news program, "Horizonte", on the same channel. With his attack on Iker Jiménez, the leftist journalist has achieved the exact opposite of what he perhaps intended: messages of support for Iker have multiplied on social media in recent hours, because with his program he is doing something that Évole seems incapable of: shedding light on the socialist corruption scandals. It is this light that Évole presents as a smear campaign, aligning himself with the government's strategy of discrediting all media outlets and journalists who investigate these corruption scandals.

In democratic countries, it is often said that journalism is the fourth estate, because its function is to hold the three branches of government accountable: the executive branch (the government), the legislative branch (parliament), and the judicial branch (the judges). With his program, Iker Jiménez is brilliantly fulfilling that function. One has to wonder if that is what bothers Jordi Évole, because as a journalist he should have the same objective, but at this point it is clear that he does not.

A simple test suffices: Since Sánchez came to power, Évole has only used the word "corrupción" (corruption) in three tweets and none of them were about the Socialist scandals. Two were about the corruption of the PP (which has been in opposition for eight years) and one was about drug trafficking in Barbate. In the midst of an explosion of Socialist corruption scandals, Évole seems too busy pointing fingers at other journalists to fulfill his duty as a journalist, which is to hold power to account. Is this simply due to ideological affinity or is there some other explanation?

Whatever the answer to that question, Iker Jiménez could invite the Catalan journalist to his mystery program, because that would be a very generous way of describing the enigma of Évole being unable to write a single tweet about it amidst the explosion of socialist political filth. In the end, it's likely that Jordi Évole finds it easier to see a UFO than to see socialist corruption. Perhaps he could even organize the program about extraterrestrials himself, if only to have another way to distract our attention from all the rot that has accumulated in the ranks of the Spanish left.
