Woke anger towards John Cleese, of Monty Python, for stating the obvious about cultures

There was a time when the left was identified with irreverence, until progressive dogmas became hegemonic in the West.

From its newfound dominant position, the left has become a club of inquisitors obsessed with censoring all opinions that do not align with their own, even the mere assertion of biological facts such as the sexual differences between men and women or the beginning of human life at conception. Among the obvious truths that the woke inquisition cannot tolerate is the evidence that not all cultures are equal, a fact persistently denied by the left in the name of so-called "multiculturalism."

This week we've seen yet another example of the left's inability to accept obvious facts. One of those who believe that not all cultures are equal is the English actor John Cleese, a member of Monty Python, creators of, among other films, "Life of Brian" (1979; he's second from the left in the image from that film at the top of this article), which contains scenes that today make a left wing, unwilling to accept being ridiculed for its most absurd dogmas and political deviations, bristle.

Last Saturday, Cleese expressed his confidence in the Conservative politician Rupert Lowe of the Restore Britain party, who the day before had criticized the Islamization of the United Kingdom and its effects. In a message posted on July 28 on his Twitter account, Cleese stated:

"I see I am being ritually insulted for my support of this man

The uneducated call me a racist

I am not a racist

I am a culturalist

I believe that some cultures are better than others

I prefer cultures to do not advocate stoning, pederasty,
wife beating, female genital mutilation, and beheading opponents

Call me old-fashioned..."

Cleese's message has gone viral, reaching over 9 million people, with more than 16,000 users sharing it and over 123,000 users liking it. Although he has received many messages of support, in the comments many furious progressives have begun attacking Cleese, accusing him of being "Islamophobic". And all for stating something that is obvious.

Today, many Islamic countries maintain laws that violate human dignity, gender equality, and religious freedom. According to The Economist's Democracy Index, among the 26 countries considered full democracies, 23 are Christian-majority countries and none are Muslim-majority countries (the other three are Japan, Taiwan, and Mauritius). At the same time, among the 61 authoritarian regimes on the list, 32 are Muslim-majority countries. Many of these 32 have Islam as their official religion. The top country on the list is Norway, with over 70% Christians. The bottom is Afghanistan, an Islamist dictatorship.

If the situation were reversed, we would see the left spewing hatred against Christianity far more frequently than it already does. In fact, a large part of the left displays a pathological hatred of the West, among other things because of its Judeo-Christian roots and because it is the geographical environment in which capitalism triumphed. One has to wonder if they are also bothered by the fact that it is precisely in the West where democracy flourished and where it is most deeply rooted today.

In any case, if there are progressives who believe that Islamic and Western cultures are comparable, they only have to walk around Iran or Saudi Arabia without a veil (if they are women), or dare to organize a gay pride march in any Islamic country, to see what happens.
