Russian activists in Spain have been overstepping the mark on many issues for years, but today one of them has crossed all boundaries.
This Sunday, one of the best-known pro-Russian activists in Spain, the lawyer Rubén Gisbert, published a message on X (Twitter) quoting another message from Vox MEP Hermann Tertsch (an automatic copy can be seen here). In his message, published today at 4:30 CET, the pro-Russian activist states:
"Good morning, these people MUST BE TRIED AND SHOT for treason, and this is not an exaggeration or a grand gesture, I say it with complete precision and awareness of what I am saying, SHOT THEM."
The Vox MEP calmly commented on Gisbert's inflammatory message, stating: "This guy who's in such a hurry to shot people, perhaps his friends should ask him to calm down a bit."
Inciting someone to be shot can constitute several crimes in Spain, depending on the context and the seriousness of the message, starting with the crime of unconditional threats (Article 169.2 of the Penal Code, a crime punishable by imprisonment from six months to two years), the crime of incitement to hatred and violence (Article 510, punishable by imprisonment from one to four years and a fine of six to twelve months), and even the crime of incitement to commit murder (Article 141, with penalties ranging from 3 years and 9 months to 20 years in prison). It should be remembered that Article 15 of the Constitution abolished the death penalty, "except as may be provided by military penal laws for times of war", and Spain is currently not at war with anyone.
Gisbert has been one of the most well-known faces of pro-Russian propaganda in Spain for years. The association Con Ucrania pointed out in September 2024 that this activist "even visited Mariupol after it was conquered by Russia, where he not only received help from the Russian army but also a guided tour of some places that Russian propaganda wanted to show". On June 12, Gisbert and other Spaniards who support Russia were invited to a reception at the Russian embassy in Madrid, and he commented on the event with these words:
"The treatment the Russian people are receiving in Spain and the European Union is abject, following directives from foreign powers to condemn Europe to geopolitical irrelevance. Without Russia, Europe is politically, economically, and culturally crippled."
On July 31, Gisbert proposed, countries governed by dictatorial regimes, stating the following:
"Spain has only one path to survival: expelling the Zionists, leaving NATO and the European Union with an international lawsuit analyzing the legitimacy of its debt, and severing its strategic alliance with China, Russia, Iran, and Algeria, while trying to foster relations with the entire Hispanic enclave in Central and South America."
Let us remember that Zionism is the defense of the Jewish people's right to their own state in the land of their ancestors, a position defended not only by the vast majority of Jews, but also by millions of non-Jews. Expelling people from their country for holding opinions different from Gisbert's is a radically anti-democratic attitude that fits perfectly with someone who seeks to ally us with the aforementioned dictatorships.
Regarding this activist's obsession with Zionism and Jews, his motivations are very clear. On July 12, Gisbert published a clearly antisemitic message on X justifying the expulsion of Jews "from all the places where they have settled":
"I believe that there is no one who is a good person and moderately intelligent who studies the moral foundations of the Jews and at least understands that they have been expelled from all the places where they have settled, created communities or controlled the economy of a country."
It must be an honor for Hermann Tertsch to be singled out by a fanatic like this, an activist who wants Spain to become an ally of dictatorships that are among the worst enemies of the West. Furthermore, I hope that the Vox MEP takes legal action against Gisbert for his infamous message today suggesting he be killed. There are things that are intolerable in any democratic and civilized country, and incitement to kill political rivals or those who do not share certain opinions is one of them. This is Spain, not Russia.
