The anti-abuse bracelet scandal and the Sánchez government's addiction to lies

For years, Spain has been witnessing a succession of scandals and displays of government incompetence, with no resignations.

A change for ideological reasons that endangered abused women

The most recent case we are seeing is with anti-abuse bracelets, devices that have been failing since a change of model implemented in haste by the communist Irene Montero before leaving her post as Minister of Equality. The reason for the change? The old bracelets were made in Israel, a country that the Spanish left feels a morbid hatred for. Instead, defective bracelets were purchased and that have left women in vulnerable situations unprotected, putting their lives at risk.

The government knew about these failures but hid them

The government was aware of these rulings because it received up to three warnings from the Observatory against Gender Violence of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ). This Monday it came to light that the Prosecutor's Office had already warned about this ruling in its 2024 report, but the Ministry of Equality had hidden it. In its 2024 report (see PDF, page 620), the Prosecutor's Office noted about these rulings:

"The "Cometa" control center itself has repeatedly informed the courts that they cannot provide them with information prior to March 20, 2024, the date on which the migration to the new devices was completed. This anomaly has consequences both in the investigation phase before the JVM and in the prosecution phase, leading to a large number of provisional dismissals or acquittals."

The Prosecutor's report also warned about "the multiple failures that have been detected with the new devices and with the service provider" and noted that "it has been the users themselves who have reported failures in the devices and that the equipment is replaced with some delay."

A few days ago, the High Court of Andalusia recognized the acquittals of abusers due to these rulings. Despite this, the government and its allies have once again demonstrated an absolute contempt for the truth and, above all, for the victims of this situation.

The lies of the PSOE and Podemos to cover up this scandal

The government and its partners have been changing their story from one day to the next. On September 18, Equality Minister Ana Redondo, a Socialist, said that only 1% of the aggressors had been acquitted due to these rulings, but without indicating how many she was referring to. The following day, Redondo accused the Prosecutor's Office of making "an assessment without data" when speaking about these failures, stating that they were "minimal, isolated", again without specifying their number. On September 20, the Minister for Digital Transformation, the socialist Óscar López, said about the bracelets that "at no time have they stopped working".

On September 22, Podemos described the reports of flaws in the bracelets as a "hoax", in statements by its spokesperson, Pablo Fernández, in which he also attacked a judge who warned against these flaws, questioning her qualifications. Since this scandal broke, the former Minister of Equality who ordered the change of the bracelets, the communist Irene Montero, has simply called the allegations about the rulings "lies," without publishing a single message on her Twitter account about the matter.

In turn, on September 23, again in an effort to deny reality, government spokesperson, the socialist Pilar Alegría, described the reports about the bracelet flaws as "shameful and embarrassing hoaxes" (remember that the flaws were reported by the users themselves and notified by the Justice and the Prosecutor's Office).

A minister reproved by Congress and who launches a despotic smokescreen

On September 24, after a week of lies, the Congress of Deputies censured Minister Ana Redondo and called for her resignation over this scandal, a resignation that has yet to come, in a government that never takes responsibility for anything. Instead of resigning, yesterday Redondo launched a new attack against the fundamental rights of pro-life people, announcing his intention to ban pro-life centers near centers that perform abortions, a measure that is openly anti-democratic and would violate freedom of expression. It is a very crude way of trying to make headlines to stop people from talking about the bracelet scandal.

This is not the first time that the PSOE and Podemos have put women in danger

To this day, despite the lies of leaders of the PSOE and Podemos, the bracelets continue to fail and many women feel unprotected because of it. This is not the first time. Let us remember that Irene Montero was the driving force behind a law that led to massive sentence reductions for rapists, a law supported by the PSOE and Podemos. Instead of taking responsibility for it, Montero blamed the judges for the results of the law she promoted.

Not content with this, the then minister also promoted the "trans law", which facilitates sexual predators access to prisons, showers and women's changing rooms, all for the sake of absurd ideological dogmas that deny biological differences between the sexes, stating that a man should be defined as a woman if he simply says he perceives himself that way.

An addiction to lies that is degrading our democracy

For years, Pedro Sánchez and his allies have turned lying into their daily form of politics, a way to poison public debate and evade all responsibility for their mistakes, incompetence, and negligence. With this addiction to lying, they are degrading our democracy and turning the defense of truth into something suspicious and risky, in a totalitarian drift that increasingly resembles George Orwell's novel "1984," in which the protagonist could no longer even affirm that "two plus two make four," but had to accept whatever the single party imposed on him.
