A miniature Holy Week display organized by a historic store in Pontevedra

Yesterday, the traditional Holy Burial procession was held in Pontevedra, in which the city's seven brotherhoods participate.

Holy Week in Pontevedra is one of the largest in Galicia and the largest in the province. It's also celebrated in a historic local shop, "A Moda Dabaixo," founded in 1896 and now run by the fourth generation. Its windows always display interesting items, including beautiful miniatures. I remember that shop from when I was a child, and whenever I go to Pontevedra, I stop by before leaving.

According to Faro de Vigo, the miniature exhibition is the work of a retired professional, Paco Luis López, who dedicated 5 years to making this marvel of miniatures.

The exhibition features the seven local brotherhoods. Above, we see the Brotherhood of the True Cross and Mercy, with a purple hood bearing a green cross potent and a black tunic, carrying the float of the Virgin of Mercy, and the Brotherhood of the Holy Body of the Seafarers' Guild, with a white tunic and a hood with a black cape, accompanying the crucified Christ.

In this other image we see six of the seven brotherhoods. On the left we see the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Sorrows, made up of women wearing black Spanish mantillas. In the background on the left we see the aforementioned Brotherhood of the True Cross and, behind it, the Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus Carrying the Cross, with a black hood, white tunic, and red cape. In the center we see the Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus of Silence, with a white hood, black tunic, and orange cape adorned with a Cross of St. James. To its right we see the Brotherhood of Beautiful Love of Campolongo, with purple hoods and capes and a white tunic. On the far right we see the Brotherhood of the Holy Spirit, with a white hood and cape and a maroon tunic.

I thought the exhibition was wonderful. According to Faro de Vigo, the figures are sold in stores for 12 euros and are a hit in the city. It's a pleasure to see that a handcrafted work like this is so popular.

It's truly remarkable that a business with 130 years of history is still open, especially considering that in Spain the laws seem designed to penalize small businesses above all else. My congratulations to "A Moda Dabaixo" on these 130 years, which they maintain by preserving the original legacy of their founders and ensuring that many children, even those of us who aren't as short as we were 40 years ago, continue to enjoy looking at their shop windows.
