Ceuta, a Moroccan migratory invasion that has been encouraged by Pedro Sánchez

Morocco has launched a massive migrant invasion against the Spanish city of Ceuta today. A clear form of hybrid warfare.

This Thursday, thousands of migrants attempted to storm Ceuta, swimming across the border between Spain and Morocco. The local newspaper El Faro de Ceuta published this video of the assault:

This migratory influx comes ten days after Sánchez's trip to Algeria, Morocco's great enemy, so it doesn't take much to interpret what happened today as Rabat's revenge against Spain, launched against a Spanish city that the Moroccan regime presents as its own on its official maps, without this having prompted any complaint so far from the government of Pedro Sánchez, immersed in a policy of weakness and concessions towards Morocco that four years ago materialized in Sánchez's recognition of Western Sahara as Moroccan territory, betraying 46 years of Spanish foreign policy. A decision that the government made without going through the Spanish Parliament.

What we are witnessing today is strikingly reminiscent of the "Green March" launched by Morocco into the Spanish Sahara in early November 1975, at a time when Spain was experiencing great political weakness due to the ailing state of the then Head of State, the dictator Francisco Franco. Today, Spain finds itself in an alarmingly similar state of weakness, with a minority government that has been unable to pass a single budget since the current legislature began in 2023 and is more concerned with furthering Sánchez's personal interests —especially his desire to cling to power at any cost— than with safeguarding Spain's interests.

It must be said that the form of hybrid warfare we are seeing today in Ceuta already has precedents in Europe. Belarus, a puppet of Putin's Russia, launched a similar migration attack against Lithuania and Poland in the months leading up to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, in a clear attempt to destabilize two member countries of NATO and the European Union. Two years ago Turkey did the same thing against Greece, highlighting the incongruity of that Asian country remaining part of NATO while using this form of hybrid warfare against another allied country.

Unlike what happened today in Spain, the governments of Poland, Lithuania, and Greece responded firmly to these attempted invasions, reinforcing their non-EU borders and promoting measures for the European Union to accelerate the return of illegal immigrants. In contrast, Sánchez is responding to this new challenge from Morocco by displaying weakness and without even bothering to mobilize the Army, at a time when the State Security Forces responsible for protecting the Ceuta border have already been overwhelmed for hours by this invasion.

It is a migratory invasion also encouraged by Sánchez himself, who has developed an irresponsible migration policy, with a drastic drop in deportations and a massive regularization of illegal immigrants that benefits many from Morocco. A policy like that clearly creates a pull factor, but the Sánchez government insisted on denying it. We are seeing the consequences of all these absurdities today in the Moroccan assault on Ceuta, an act of hybrid warfare that should have already prompted the government to declare a state of siege in that city, a weak and incapable government that continues to fail to react.

+ UPDATED 7:48 PM: The government has just given the order to mobilize the Army in Ceuta, when the security forces had already been overwhelmed for hours by the migrant invasion from Morocco and when that Spanish city is already saturated with thousands of illegal immigrants who stormed the border today.
