It is one of the old BGS bunkers built in communist Hungary

An abandoned air raid shelter still containing Cold War military hardware

During the Cold War years, many countries built all kinds of shelters in the face of possible air and nuclear attacks.

F-4 Objektum: a secret nuclear shelter for the communist elite under Budapest
Hungary: an underground Cold War military bunker with its equipment still intact

In the 1950s, the communist dictatorship in Hungary launched the BGS program, initials for "Bomba-Gáz-Szilánk" (Bomb, Gas and Shrapnel), with which many shelters were built by the whole country, most of them underground and others on the surface, like big concrete cubes. These shelters were theoretically protected against bombs weighing up to 250 kg, they were self-sufficient and had space for dozens of people. All buildings made in Hungary since 1950 had to include this type of shelter in their basement, including houses and schools.

After the fall of communism, many of these shelters were abandoned and looted. Others, mainly the military shelters, were preserved for more years. Over time, these abandoned shelters have become a magnet for urban explorers. Today, the channel Exploring the Unbeaten Path has published an interesting video showing one of these Cold War BGS bunkers in Hungary, without revealing details about its exact location. The most interesting thing is that this bunker still contains a large amount of unused military equipment:

You can see below some screenshots of the video, as a preview of the many things that can be seen in it. Here we see a Geiger counter to measure radioactivity.

Among many other items, this bunker still contains a large number of Cold War-era military uniforms, mostly rain coats.

In the shelter there are also gas masks of various types.

Much of the material has never been used. Here we see the air filters of the gas masks, still in their packaging. They are as new as if they had just been manufactured yesterday.

Several fire approach suits. Care must be taken with this type of material, since years ago these suits were made with asbestos, a material that causes asbestosis and cancer.
