Some details that are ignored by those who see this idea as a magic wand

Four questions for those who propose two states as a solution for Israel and Palestine

Since the Hamas terrorist attack against Israel on October 7, 2023, some insist on the need for the two-state solution.

Two states, the story of a solution that was broken by those who wanted to destroy Israel
The true origin of the distorted name of Palestine: a story ignored by many people

According to this proposal, the existence of two States, Israel and Palestine, would solve the conflicts that have been existing in the area. This is, certainly, a proposal lacking in realism and that ignores the fact that the Arabs who are now called Palestinians rejected that idea in 1948 and set out to destroy Israel, unleashing a series of wars that had a common denominator: the Arabs were defeated in each and every one of them, despite having the support of the military forces of all the Arab countries in the area.

However, since there are people who insist on this solution despite any objection, I will now raise some questions regarding this two-state solution:

  1. Who would govern? The last Palestinian elections were held in 2006. Hamas won, but Fatah took the West Bank and Hamas formed its own government in Gaza, effectively acting as separate governments. Since then, Hamas and Fatah have been ruling their respective territories for 17 years without calling elections, acting as dictatorships.
  2. What borders would the Palestinian state have? Hamas does not recognize the State of Israel. He intends its destruction. The same goes for other Palestinian terrorist groups such as the PFLP or Islamic Jihad. Palestinian terrorism and its sympathizers want Israel to disappear, so they would never recognize any border with the State of Israel, even if it were reduced to a minimal part of what it is today.
  3. Would the Palestinian state imply ethnic cleansing? Israel is a democratic and plural state, in which Jews, Muslims, Christians and Druze coexist, as well as other religious minorities. However, Jews have been expelled from the Palestinian territories in Gaza and the West Bank, and in both territories the pressure of Islamic extremism is causing a large exodus of Christians. When Israel became independent, the new state invited the Arabs living in its territory to stay. The response of many Arabs was to try to destroy the new state. Hamas and other Palestinian terrorist groups continue to try.
  4. Would the new Palestinian state give up on liquidating Israel? The two-state solution systematically ignores the fanaticism of the Palestinian authorities in Gaza and the West Bank. Hamas has publicly called for genocide against the Jews, and indeed its October 7 terrorist attack against Israel had the characteristics of a pogrom, being the largest massacre of Jews in a single day since the Holocaust. In the West Bank, the Palestinian National Authority issues documents calling for committing genocide against the Jews.

Honestly, believing that having a state of our own would moderate Palestinian extremism is as illusory as believing in 1932 that having a state would moderate the nazis. Hamas has had extensive international aid to create a peaceful state in Gaza and has instead dedicated that aid to building and acquiring weapons to destroy Israel. There will only be peace in the Middle East when Palestinian extremism renounces killing all the Jews in the area and respects the existence of the State of Israel, confirmed by the United Nations in 1947.
