As we saw a few weeks ago, a contingent of the Spanish Army has been deployed in Poland for some maneuvers.

The Spanish contribution to the great NATO exercise to send “a robust message”

These maneuvers, called Steadfast Defender 2024, are the largest exercise organized by NATO since the Cold War, an exceptional fact that is explained by the situation created by Russia with the invasion of Ukraine and threats from Moscow to Western countries.

300 soldiers and about 90 vehicles of the Spanish Army participate in this exercise, mostly belonging to the "Guzmán el Bueno" X Brigade, the Logistics Brigade (BRILOG) and the Transmission Regiment No. 1 (RT 1). The vehicles and some personnel arrived in Szczecin, Poland, on February 20 aboard the Ro-Ro ship "Blue Wave Harmony". The Spanish contingent includes Leopard 2E main battle tanks and ASCOD Pizarro infantry fighting vehicles.

The Spanish contingent has been deployed at the Drawsko Pomorskie maneuvering field, in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, northwest Poland, together with the 1st Tank Battalion of the 1st Warsaw Armored Brigade of the Polish Army, equipped with Leopard 2A5 tanks. In that same place, military forces from Albania, Spain, Poland, the United Kingdom and Turkey have participated in the Brilliant Jump 24 phase of this exercise, which brings together 3,000 soldiers and about 700 vehicles. Soon and under the direction of the 11th Lubusz Armored Cavalry Division of the Polish Army, the Spanish soldiers will join the "Dragon 2024" exercise, the largest military maneuvers scheduled by the Polish Army for this year.

The Polish Army has published an excellent series of photos from this exercise taken by Senior Corporal Marcel Mańkowski, of the 1st Armored Brigade of Warsaw, which includes many images of the Spanish armored vehicles participating in these maneuvers. You can see those photos in this entry.
