Russia launched 120 missiles and 90 drones hours after Scholz's call

The result of dialogue with Putin: massive Russian terrorist attack against Ukraine

On Friday, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called Vladimir Putin to talk to him for an hour.

With that call, Scholz did Putin the great favor of breaking his international isolation, and Putin has thanked him by launching, on the night of November 16-17, a massive terrorist attack against Ukraine, which has killed seven civilians and left 19 wounded in several regions.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said: "Overnight and this morning, Russian terrorists used various types of drones, including Shaheds, as well as cruise, ballistic, and aeroballistic missiles —Zircons, Iskanders, and Kinzhals. In total, approximately 120 missiles and 90 drones were launched. Our air defense forces destroyed over 140 aerial targets."

As was the case last year, this attack was directed against Ukraine's energy grid. Putin is trying to leave Ukrainians without electricity and heating as the cold weather sets in, a strategy aimed at making the population of the invaded country suffer so that they stop resisting and surrender to the invaders. In the end, Scholz's call has served to give Putin hope that Ukraine's allies will yield to Russia if it continues to kill Ukrainian civilians.

Let us also remember that while Russia is committing these crimes against Ukraine, it remains a member of the UN Security Council. Unlike what happened in the League of Nations with the USSR after the invasion of Finland in 1939 (Stalin's dictatorship was expelled from that organization), the UN has not only not expelled Russia for committing these atrocities against another country, but also a few weeks ago the UN Secretary General traveled to Russia and displayed a servile attitude towards Putin, which caused a scandal.

As history shows, trying to appease a criminal tyrant only serves to make him feel bigger. This already happened with Hitler in 1938 at the Munich conference, when the prime ministers of the United Kingdom and France decided to give in to German claims on Czechoslovakia so that there would be no new world war. In the end, there was a new war with a Germany strengthened by the weapons obtained from its annexation of Czechoslovakia.

In the face of thugs like Putin, democratic countries must stand firm and continue to support Ukraine. This is a moral obligation and the only way to prevent Russia from succeeding in this invasion and, in the medium term, from doing the same to some other country, even a NATO member. Those who call for negotiations with Russia and giving in to its demands only seek to favour Putin and to reward their systematic terrorism against the Ukrainian people.
