The Spanish socialist leader is now experiencing the consequences of a form of government based on constant abuse of power.
A ruler who has shown that he has no scruples
Sánchez has been acting like an autocrat who believes that holding political power gives him the right to do whatever he wants, attacking the foundations of the rule of law, threatening judicial independence, harassing the media and changing laws to privilege his allies. It is hard to believe that someone so unscrupulous is free from the temptation to take advantage of his position for personal ends, as the corruption case involving his wife already demonstrates.
Aldama implicates Sánchez in the plot of the 'Koldo Case'
Today, Sánchez and his party, the PSOE, are the protagonists of a new scandal following the statement by Víctor de Aldama, an alleged commissioner in the "Koldo Case" plot, the socialist corruption network that used the purchase of masks during the pandemic for personal profit. Aldama has implicated Sánchez in the plot, stating that he knew her and thanked her for what she was doing.
Furthermore, Aldama has also implicated the socialist Teresa Ribera, minister for the Ecological Transition, just at the time when she is in the process of becoming a European commissioner. The European People's Party now has a hot potato in its hands for having given in to Sánchez and having decided to support Ribera for that position.
Vox announces that it will request the judicial indictment of Sánchez
One of the accusations in this judicial process, Vox, has already announced that it will request the indictment of Sánchez and four of his ministers (Fernando Grande-Marlaska, Montero, Ángel Víctor Torres and Teresa Ribera) following Aldama's statement before the judge this Thursday. It must be said that as the number of those involved in this case increases, so do the chances of one of them "singing" before the judge, as Aldama has already done today.
The PSOE, knocked out, claims that Aldama's statement is a "lie"
Ironically, the response of a PSOE knocked out by Aldama's statement has been to say that it is "absolutely false", a statement made by María Jesús Montero. Thus, Sánchez and his party oppose their word to Aldama's word. As a legal defense strategy it is something legitimate and predictable, but politically it no longer has any value.
Sánchez and his party lack credibility after their numerous lies
In recent years, Sanchez and his party have lied countless times and their word is no longer worth anything. The socialists cannot ask the Spanish people to believe them, after having lied to them claiming that they would not govern with the communists of Podemos, that they would not make a pact with the heirs of ETA not even with the separatists, that there was a "committee of experts" that advised the government on the pandemic, that they would not approve an amnesty for the authors of the separatist coup of 2017, which would bring Carles Puigdemont to Spain to be held accountable before the Justice and a very long etcetera that would make for several articles.
In light of the events highlighted by Aldama today, Sánchez and his party no longer have any possible defence because they have burned it with their lies. It is the consequence of having deceived the Spanish people so many times: the socialists are no longer in a position to ask us to believe them and not Aldama. When a government has destroyed its credibility in this way, to the point of lacking it to face a serious corruption scandal, the only thing left for it to do is call elections and resign, in addition to preparing to answer to justice for this corruption plot.
