The separatist writer defended racist and violent theses in 'Sempre en Galiza'

The Galician PP praises Castelao, who defended giving 'a shot in the heart' to certain 'patriots'

The ideological submission of the Popular Party of Galicia to the dogmas of the left and separatism is already reaching grotesque extremes.

The Galician government (PP) describes Castelao as “one of the symbols of Galicia”

This Tuesday, January 7, José López Campos, Minister of Culture of the Galician government and member of the Popular Party, praised the separatist writer Alfonso Rodríguez Castelao, calling him a "figure of unity between all Galicians and one of the symbols of Galicia".

The Galician PP government has decided to declare 2025 "Castelao Year", on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of his death, and López Campos has justified this by stating that it is a "show of gratitude from the Galician people to this unique figure of Galician culture and politics".

Castelao's words defending beatings and shootings against patriots

In case anyone hasn't read it, Castelao wrote the following in his book "Sempre en Galiza" (Always in Galiza), specifically in the second book, chapter IV:

"On July 25, 1935, we were celebrating the "rally of the harangues" in Quintana de Santiago, and a patriot shouted: "¡¡Viva España!!" [Long live Spain] Immediately, some young separatists emerged from the crowd and beat up the patriotic interrupter. I thought that punishment had been well spent (...) Then the ¡Viva España! meant ¡Death to the Republic! and the leftist young men did not beat up for what was said, but for what was meant with outrageous hypocrisy. We all remember, likewise, that ¡Arriba España! [Up Spain] was no longer worthy of a simple beating; it deserved a shot in the heart, because this breed of patriots used a pistol."

This is not just justifying attacks against political rivals, but also their murder for the mere fact of shouting something that was not to the liking of this separatist fanatic. I wonder what would happen if some writer had written something similar against those who shouted "Long live Galicia" and today a public institution paid tribute to him, although it is not hard to imagine. Why does the PP legitimize in this way a fanatic who justified attacks and shots to the heart against his political rivals? What kind of message does the PP send to young people who read this book?

Castelao's racist remarks in 'Sempre en Galiza'

Let us also remember that in that work Castelao made clearly racist statements, presenting Galicia as Aryan and the rest of Spain as Semitic, speaking of "the permanence and continuity of our race through two millennia", denying that Spain was a nation because it lacked "ethnic unity", calling the Andalusians a "nomadic race and ill-suited to work", calling the rest of the Spaniards effeminate (except those from the northern cornice), and despising Castilians and Extremadurans, whom he referred to as "scoundrels". "mixed race of Galicians and Moors".

It is outrageous to read that the PP describes the author of these atrocities as a "figure of unity between all Galicians and one of the symbols of Galicia." These are the same people who then come to say that they reject violence and racism, while praising someone who promoted them for political ends. These are the people who then come to ask for our vote from those of us who love Spain, claiming the need to unite the right-wing. What nerve.
