Today, millions of Christians celebrate the Christian holiday of Good Friday around the world, including in Ukraine.

Following the full-scale Russian invasion that began on February 24, 2022, Ukraine definitively adopted the Gregorian calendar (in countries with an Orthodox majority, religious holidays still follow the Julian calendar). Russia seems to care as little about the religious beliefs and traditions of Ukrainians as it does about their right to life, as it has demonstrated once again today.

According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine at 7:09 CET, this morning Russia attacked a residential area in the city of Kharkiv. According to the initial data provided by the aforementioned source, this new Russian terrorist attack killed one person and left 57 injured, including 5 children. This afternoon, at 13:03 CET, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine has indicated that the number of injured has increased to 97 people, including 7 children. The number is likely to continue to rise, as rescue efforts were still ongoing in the attacked residential area at that time. Because it happened so early, the attack surprised many families while they were still sleeping.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced this morning at 9:37 a.m.:

This is how Russia began this Good Friday – with ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, Shaheds – maiming our people and cities.

A missile strike on Kharkiv, right on the city. Dozens of residential buildings were damaged, as well as an enterprise and vehicles. Around 70 people were injured, including five children. The youngest, Valeriia, is just two years old. All the wounded received the necessary medical assistance. Tragically, one person was killed.

Zelensky noted that Russia also attacked Sumy today, killing one person (recall that a few days ago, during the Christian holiday of Palm Sunday, the Russians already caused a massacre in that city, killing 34 people in another attack on a residential area). Today there have also been Russian attacks in the Dnipro, Kyiv, Mykolaiv, and Donetsk regions.

These new attacks come two days after a UN vote in which the US joined Russia, North Korea and Belarus against a text rejecting the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Today, ten hours after the first news of the Russian attack on Kharkiv, Donald Trump has still not said anything about this new Russian war crime against the Ukrainian civilian population. Last Monday, Trump apologized to Russia for the Sumy massacre, saying it was a mere "mistake," and blamed Zelensky for the war, which began with an unprovoked Russian invasion ordered by dictator Vladimir Putin.
