A large abandoned house hidden in a leafy and silent forest in Asturias
Asturias is a Spanish region ideal for cultivating legends, due to its vast mountainous areas and lush forests.
The most rural part of Asturias is suffering from an aging population problem that is leaving many municipalities with abandoned houses in the middle of nowhere and even old cemeteries that are forgotten, as we saw here in March. My favorite place to learn about this part of Asturias is the YouTube channel Hilux Aventura, which often publishes interesting videos exploring areas of that region that are rarely explored by humans.
In his latest video, published just an hour ago, the channel's creator explores a large abandoned house in the middle of a lush, yet also silent, forest, as can be seen from the very few bird sounds heard there. It's the ideal setting for a mystery film, but also a perfect opportunity to learn about traditional Asturian architecture and what life was like many years ago in this type of housing (the video is in Spanish, you can activate automatic English subtitles in the bottom bar of the player):
