Socialist Mathematics: harming mass immigration by trying to defend it

The lack of culture among some members of the Spanish government gives rise to situations that would be comical if they didn't address serious problems.

Yesterday, the Minister of Education and spokesperson for the Spanish government, the socialist Pilar Alegría, attempted to counter those who associate mass immigration with crime, and she did so by providing a figure that showed she is not very good at math. According to the socialist minister, 73% of crimes committed in Spain are committed by Spanish perpetrators, a figure she provided as a "solvent" for the complaints of more and more people against one of the collateral effects of this government's irresponsible immigration policy.

By providing this data, Pilar Alegría ended up harming mass immigration when she was trying to defend it. We only need to look at another piece of data that allows us to establish which part of the population has a higher incidence of crime. According to the National Statistics Institute (INE), Spain has a population of 49,153,849 people, of which 6,947,711 are foreign citizens. A simple calculation is enough to see that this means that foreigners make up 14.13% of the population.

If Spaniards commit 73% of crimes, the conclusion we have is that 14.13% of the population commits 27% of crimes. Although she has a primary school teaching qualification, Pilar Alegría may feel a bit lost at this point, so I will add that this means that there is a higher percentage of criminals among the foreign population than among Spanish citizens. Something I already pointed out here in 2022, based on official data published by the government itself.

As I warned three years ago, statistics are an indicator of social reality, not an individual portrait. Higher crime rates among the foreign population do not mean that all foreigners are criminals. In fact, as with the population of any country, I am convinced that the vast majority of foreigners residing in Spain are honest people who earn a living by working, pay taxes, and do their best to support their families. The problem is that there is a significant group of criminals among them, and the government does not seem very concerned about this. In fact, it has been allowing many illegal immigrants to enter and distributing them throughout Spain instead of deporting them, without being able to guarantee that criminals are not sneaking in among them.

On the other hand, we must bear in mind that many of the criminals the government counts as Spanish are naturalized foreigners Yesterday I already pointed out an alarming fact here: since 2018 (when Sánchez came to power) 237,000 Moroccans have obtained Spanish nationality. The granting of nationality has become an object of criticism because the government is giving it away without checking the degree of integration of those who obtain it, unlike what happens in other European countries.

Finally, in 2022 I pointed out that there are certain national groups in which the incidence of crime is higher, specifically Algerians, Nigerians, and Moroccans, based on data on the nationality of prisoners serving sentences in Spain. This data should be useful in knowing where immigration filters are failing, but as with everything else, the Sánchez government will never admit to having made any mistakes: it is always someone else's fault.
