A register with which Pedro Sánchez imitates Vladimir Putin's dictatorship

Counting Stars will not be in the socialist government's register to control the media

The leftist government of Pedro Sánchez continues with its "Gag Plan" to control the media.

Pedro Sanchez's 'Gag Plan' imitates Franco's and Putin's measures to control the media
Sánchez wants to muzzle the media he does not control: we will not shut up!

Let us remember that this plan imitates measures taken by the Franco and Putin dictatorships to control the media, specifically a registry to blackmail the media: the government says that registration will not be mandatory, but media outlets that do not register will not be able to receive any type of public funds . In this way, Pedro Sánchez's cabinet intends to reverse the order of factors inherent to a democracy: the media, which have the duty to oversee the government, will be controlled by the government they are supposed to oversee.

In addition to being an authoritarian measure, typical of anti-democratic regimes that do not respect freedom of information and freedom of expression, with this registration, Sánchez is carrying out an operation of revenge against the media that have uncovered the socialist corruption scandals, scandals that are cornering the president of the government, that have degraded his personal image inside and outside of Spain and that are causing a collapse of his party in the polls. Let's remember that a year ago Sánchez threatened these media outlets with changing the laws to harm them, and now he is determined to carry out his threat despite the fact that lately he doesn't even have a sufficient majority in Congress to approve his initiatives.

With this record, a dangerous situation is created in Spain: a government controlling the media and laying the groundwork for harassing dissidents and the companies that invest in them, all under a demand for transparency that seems very cynical coming from a government that is breaking all records for opacity, refusing to provide information that it is required to do by law. In other words, Sánchez intends to impose on the media an obligation of transparency that he, as a ruler, systematically fails to comply with, violating the law.

I don't know what the registration criteria are, but whatever they are and whether they also include sites like this one, I can tell you one thing. Counting Stars has been active for 21 years. This opinion space has more circulation than many Spanish media outlets, and two of its characteristics since its founding are freedom and independence. Counting Stars is not at the service of any government because it neither requests nor receives any type of public funding, which is the best guarantee that any politician has no power to influence what is published here in any way.

Thus, Counting Stars will not be in that media register, because it will continue to neither ask for nor receive any money from the State. This site will remain steadfast in denouncing the authoritarianism, corruption, and mafia-like ways of the Sánchez government. Counting Stars will continue to be a free and independent space for monitoring political power, especially when those in power refuse to be accountable to the people and make efforts to hide from us what they spend our money on. So, the socialist mafia can shove that registry wherever they want. Long live Spain and long live Liberty!
