The fall of dictator Nicolás Maduro unleashes hysteria in the Spanish extreme left

The Nicolás Maduro dictatorship in Venezuela has been an important source of political and financial support for the extreme left in other countries.

Following the latest electoral fraud in Venezuela, politicians from several far-left Spanish parties supported and endorsed the usurper Nicolás Maduro: Podemos, Sumar, the Communist Party of Spain (PCE), EH Bildu, the Galician Nationalist Bloc (BNG), United Left (IU) and the Popular Unity Candidacy (CUP).

The fall of Nicolás Maduro this Saturday has unleashed a wave of hysteria among the Spanish extreme left. A predictable reaction, given their ties to that dictatorship and the things that could come to light if that communist regime collapses. Along these lines, in recent hours, messages have proliferated in which the Spanish extreme left has responded to the US intervention to capture Maduro with the same harshness it did not show toward the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Hamas terrorist attack against Israel, or the jihadist massacres against Christians in Nigeria.

The Secretary General of the communist party Podemos, Ione Belarra, said in a message posted at 9:13 CET: "Spain is a country of peace. Let's break relations with the US and leave NATO before it's too late." From the same far-left party, at 11:57 CET, MEP Irene Montero demanded that the European Commission "act in accordance with international law against the US in the face of its illegal military aggression against Venezuela and to guarantee the release of its President", referring to the dictator Nicolás Maduro. Montero has also stated that "the US is a danger" and that "the Government must break all alliances with the US, starting with NATO."

Meanwhile, the communist Pablo Iglesias Turrión, founder of Podemos and partner of Irene Montero, has stated: "They are bombing Venezuela to steal its oil and impose a puppet government. Remaining in NATO is collaboration with a criminal state."

Along the same lines, another of the founders of Podemos, the communist Juan Carlos Monedero, has harshly criticized the US intervention, stating: "Launching bombs and missiles on a capital city is the work of murderers." These are words that this man has never written about the Russian attacks against Ukraine. In fact, a few days ago Monedero proposed that Europe ally itself with Russia.

At 11:38 CET, the Communist Party of Spain (PCE), a far-left party that includes two ministers in Pedro Sánchez's government (Yolanda Díaz and Sira Rego), published this message: "We condemn the vile and criminal imperialist aggression of the United States government against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. We call on the peoples of the world to take to the streets in unity in solidarity with Venezuela." The PCE's general secretary, Enrique Santiago, even went to the Venezuelan embassy in Madrid to express his support for that dictatorship, invoking his position as vice president of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Congress. Sánchez's government partners once again supporting anti-democratic regimes.

The far-left separatist coalition Galician Nationalist Bloc (BNG), true to its traditional support for communist dictatorships, has published a statement in which it expresses its "outright and energetic condemnation" of the US intervention in Venezuela and demands a "clear condemnation" of this military operation from the Spanish government and the Galician regional government.

Other far-left parties that have published messages against US intervention include Sumar, Izquierda Unida, EH Bildu, ERC and the CUP. The reaction of these far-left organizations was highly predictable. These parties either failed to condemn or remained lukewarm in their stance regarding the Russian invasion of Ukraine, opposed the delivery of Western military aid to the Ukrainian people, and blamed NATO and the United States for this Russian aggression. All the harshness they lacked then is now on display in support of a dictator who has been violating human rights and who, until now, remained in power illegally after losing the last presidential elections, even refusing to publish the results.

The far left is not supporting Venezuela: it is supporting a usurper who has plunged the Venezuelan people into oppression, turning their daily lives into a living hell and using drug trafficking as one of his main sources of income, a criminal activity with which he has caused terrible harm to the population of the United States. Once again, the far left shows us that no matter what happens, they are always on the side of communist dictators, regardless of the suffering they are inflicting on their people.
