Among these landscapes are those of the Granada Geopark, a mountainous area that is remarkable not only for its scenery but also for harboring one of the best continental geological records of the last 5 million years, as noted on its official website, which adds: "Among other treasures, this record contains the most complete set of fossil remains of the large, now-extinct mammals that lived during the Quaternary Period."

The Granada Geopark covers an area of ​​4,722 square kilometers, including 47 municipalities in the districts of Guadix, Baza, Huéscar, and Montes, in the province of Granada. UNESCO recognized this area as a Global Geopark on July 10, 2020.
