A prominent Jewish leader is urging Jews to avoid Spain due to the anti-Semitism promoted by the Sánchez government

The alignment of Spain's leftist government with the Iranian dictatorship is causing increasing alarm in the Jewish community.

This alignment reached its most blatant and surreal moment last Sunday, when the Iranian dictatorship launched missiles against Israel carrying a photo of Pedro Sánchez, the socialist president of the Spanish government, with a message of gratitude for opposing the US and Israeli military intervention against that Islamist regime after the massacre of more than 36,500 people at the hands of the dictatorship for demanding freedom in Iran. A massacre in the face of which the Spanish government maintained a very low profile compared to its harsh criticism of the aforementioned military intervention. Sánchez has not even condemned Iran for using his image on its missiles, while he and his parliamentary allies continue to focus their criticism on the US and Israel.

In Spain, the government's attitude leaves no room for doubt. Last year, the Socialist minister Óscar Puente insulted a group of French Jewish children, justifying their removal from a plane in an incident that has led to complaints of antisemitism. In January, a Jewish cemetery in Barcelona suffered an antisemitic attack without the Spanish government issuing any condemnation. This silence is not surprising considering that in September Sánchez lamented not having "nuclear bombs" to use against Israel, a scandalous statement after which more than 850 anti-Semitism groups accused him of "incitement to genocide".

In light of this situation, and after it was revealed on Sunday that Iran used a photo of Sánchez on one of its missiles, this Tuesday Ariel Muzicant, an eminent European Jewish leader - he has been president of the Jewish Community of Vienna, president of the European Jewish Congress and vice president of the World Jewish Congress - issued a press release alerting the Jewish community:

Warning about the risks of traveling to Spain

As former president of the Vienna IKG, the European Jewish Congress and vice-president of the World Jewish Congress, I urge Jews and Israelis to avoid Spain with URGENT urgency.

Since October 7, various antisemitic statements and actions by the Spanish government have created an intolerable climate of antisemitism and anti-Israel sentiment in Spain, unseen since the Inquisition in 1492. Yesterday, the Spanish Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, stated that the danger to Europe is not Iranian missiles, but Israel. The Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, wants to legalize the residency of hundreds of thousands of illegal refugees, mostly Muslims. At the same time, the few Jews living in Spain live in constant fear of terrorist attacks, organized and orchestrated primarily by Iranian embassies and the Revolutionary Guard (throughout Europe). This behavior by the left-wing Spanish government is a disgrace to Europe!

As a Spanish citizen, I express my solidarity with the Jewish community for the wave of hatred it is suffering in Spain, an antisemitism promoted directly by an extremist government that uses hatred of Jews as a smokescreen to cover up its serious corruption scandals and its appalling management of public infrastructure, which on January 18 caused a tragic train accident with 46 deaths, whose political leader is precisely Minister Óscar Puente, who instead of doing his job is busy setting social media ablaze with his insults.
