Valencia: a tragedy with 229 dead and about whose cause they now confess the truth

Spain is a country where those responsible for major disasters with many deaths continue to refuse to take any responsibility.

This year we have had the example of the Adamuz train disaster, with 46 deaths. Let us remember that two weeks ago political responsibility for that tragedy was confirmed, caused by tracks in poor condition amidst railway chaos generated by the terrible management of the Pedro Sánchez government and, specifically, of the Minister of Transport Óscar Puente. Neither of them has resigned yet.

Yesterday, the newspaper El Debate reported that the Júcar River Basin Authority (CHJ), which is part of the government, now acknowledges that the pending works in the Poyo area would have partially prevented the Valencia flood tragedy, a disaster that resulted in 229 deaths in that region. In a meeting between the Valencian Community and the central government, with notable absences from the latter, a representative of the CHJ acknowledged that "the pending works could indeed have partially prevented" the Valencia DANA tragedy.

Let us remember that one month before the catastrophe, which occurred at the end of October 2024, the CHJ refused to build storm tanks on the Elche-Santa Pola road, which would have greatly mitigated the effects of the floods.

On the first anniversary of the tragedy last October, we learned that the government has not carried out any flood prevention work, and does not plan to start any until at least 2027, that is, when three years will have passed since the Valencia catastrophe and when the time comes to call new general elections, which Sánchez currently has a high probability of losing for the second time in a row.

These events are scandalous, as is the attitude of impunity and arrogance of this government, which not only avoids assuming any political responsibility for the deaths caused by its terrible management, but also intends to distract attention from its internal scandals by causing fires in our foreign relations, especially with the United States and Israel, regardless of the consequences this may have for our trade relations.

Sánchez knows that if he is ousted from power after the next elections, he has a high chance of ending up in prison, since he is the leader of a political party, the PSOE, besieged by serious corruption scandals. That is why he is relying on smokescreens to grab headlines and distract attention from serious matters such as the one published yesterday by El Debate.

The worst part is that this deceitful strategy of political manipulation is succeeding, not only because the media falls into the trap of letting the government direct their attention, but also because a left-wing electorate willing to forget any corruption scandal and the deaths in those tragedies as long as the right wing doesn't govern, an electorate that has been duped by a government that promotes a strategy of political polarization whose aim is, by all accounts, to prevent Sánchez from being harmed by his scandals and his serious negligence.
