Sumy: A bloody Russian attack on a kindergarten and a stunning media silence

This strategy of terror against the civilian population of Ukraine, whose acts are clear war crimes, was manifested yesterday in a bloody attack against a kindergarten in Sumy, the capital of the oblast of the same name, in northern Ukraine. This Wednesday, at 1:10 p.m. CET, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported on this attack through its Telegram channel, publishing a video and the nine photos that appear in this article.

Looks like the Russians have decided to welcome Ukrainian drones at the May 9 parade after all.

In this video, published by Suspilne Media and shared by Nexta, we see the effects of the attack—a large fire engulfed the kindergarten—and what happened during the rescue operation. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine stated that during the rescue efforts, due to the threat of further attacks, emergency services were forced to periodically suspend their operations. It's worth noting that Russia has a history of launching secondary attacks to kill medical and fire service personnel who attempt to assist victims of the initial attack.

Initially, it was reported that the Russian attack killed one woman. At 5:10 p.m. CET, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine released this video showing the discovery of another body under the rubble, bringing the death toll to two during this Russian attack on a kindergarten in Sumy.

It is shocking to see the great media silence surrounding this cowardly Russian attack on a kindergarten. The vast majority of Western media outlets have not published any news about what happened, with exceptions such as the BBC, Associated Press and Radio Free Europe, in addition to Ukrainian media, reported on the attack. A bloody Russian attack on a kindergarten isn't news? Would we see the same silence if the attack could be attributed to the United States or Israel?

It should be noted that this Monday Putin declared a truce to allow the May 9th parade to take place in Moscow, an event to celebrate the anniversary of the German defeat in World War II. The day after Putin's announcement, Russia launched a wave of attacks against civilian targets in Ukraine, using ballistic missiles, glide bombs, and suicide drones. As reported yesterday by Visegrad 24, on Tuesday Russia killed 12 people in Zaporizhzhia, 6 in the Donetsk region, 5 in Poltava, and 4 in Dnipro.

This Wednesday, the President of Ukraine reported that by 10 a.m., the Russian army had already committed 1,820 ceasefire violations. "As of today, we can confirm that the Russian side has disrupted the ceasefire regime. Based on the evening reports from our military and intelligence, we will decide on our further actions", stated Volodymyr Zelensky, in a veiled reference to possible reprisals against the May 9th parade in Moscow. Yesterday, at 9:15 p.m. CET, the President of Ukraine added: "If the one person in Moscow who cannot live without war cares only about one parade and nothing else, that’s a different story. Ukraine is ready to work for peace. Ukraine seeks to end this war with dignity. Russia has fought to the point where even its main parade now depends on us. This is a clear signal: Enough is enough."

In response to this warning, the Kremlin has threatened to launch attacks against Kyiv if Ukraine disrupts the Moscow parade. Russia has also directed this threat against the embassies of other countries, urging them to evacuate their staff in the Ukrainian capital. We must not forget that this terrorist regime maintains a permanent seat with veto power on the UN Security Council and retains all its embassies in Western countries, while directing all kinds of threats against them. It is high time to sever relations and completely isolate this criminal regime.
