Russia is a terrorist state and free nations must sever all ties with it

Last night, Vladimir Putin's dictatorship launched another massive attack against civilian targets in Ukraine.

Russia threatens 12 countries, including Spain, identifying 21 military targets

The cities most affected by this latest attack against civilians were Dnipro and Kyiv. According to the Kyiv Post, the attack killed 21 people, including two children, and injured 106, including three children. The attack targeted residential buildings with no military value, as has been the case for years. The President of Ukraine stated that Russia used 656 attack drones and 73 missiles in this attack, posting this video showing the damage caused:

What Russia has been doing in Ukraine for the past four years is pure and simple terrorism, a criminal strategy that consists of murdering civilians (men, women, and children) to compensate for Russian military failures in this invasion. Only Ukrainian air defenses are preventing the number of dead and wounded from being much higher, but that should not prevent us from drawing a clear conclusion about the Kremlin's brutality toward Ukrainian civilians and the indiscriminate Russian attacks against the population of the invaded country: Russia is committing crimes of genocide in Ukraine. It is time to say it loud and clear.

The crimes of Putin's dictatorship against the Ukrainian people constantly demonstrate that Russia is a terrorist state, a regime that has no respect for human rights and that today seeks to resurrect the totalitarian system that disappeared in 1991 with the fall of communism in that country. The Kremlin is a criminal organization that uses a state facade to obtain privileges inaccessible to terrorist groups, such as maintaining diplomatic relations with other countries or access to international organizations. In the current situation, it is especially scandalous to see that Russia has not only not been expelled from the UN but also retains its seat with veto power on the Security Council.

What credibility can an organization have that claims to promote peace and human rights, while at the same time having at its helm a terrorist regime that has been massacring civilians in Ukraine for four years? Russia deserves to be expelled from the UN and excluded from all international forums, as its presence there only serves to further the criminal interests of Vladimir Putin and his cronies. Likewise, free nations must sever all ties with this terrorist regime, whose embassies have been used for years to justify and whitewash Russia's atrocious crimes in Ukraine and to destabilize democratic countries.

It is not enough for free nations to impose sanctions on Russia. The crimes of Putin's regime are serious enough that we must begin taking more active measures against it. Russia's own actions indicate the way forward. A few days ago, Romania suffered a Russian attack for which the Kremlin has not only failed to apologize, but has also issued threats to the attacked country. Furthermore, the facts indicate that Putin's dictatorship is already preparing hostile actions against Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, three NATO countries.

Likewise, Russia is using its fleet of merchant ships (many of them flying false flags) to try to destroy submarine cables and oil pipelines in European countries, as has happened in recent months in Ireland, the United Kingdom and Finland. We must also remember that in mid-April, Russia threatened 12 countries, including Spain, identifying 21 military targets for its Armed Forces, which clearly demonstrates Putin's willingness to continue escalating the war at the slightest opportunity. Faced with such provocations, policies of appeasement are a mistake that only serve to embolden Russia, just as they emboldened Nazi Germany in the last century.

Of course, a firm response from free nations against Russia's terrorist regime requires strong unity among allied countries, a unity currently weakened to a great extent by Kremlin propaganda, which has taken deep root in certain political circles on both sides of the Atlantic. Europe, Canada, and the United States need each other to confront the Russian threat, just as they need to strengthen their ties with Japan, which also suffers this same threat from the other side of the world in the Kuril Islands. Attempts to weaken that unity among free nations benefit Russia and further Putin's strategy of terror, which seeks to foster division, lack of solidarity, and cowardice among democratic countries as part of his expansionist agenda.
