The PSOE's sewers and its role in the erasing of Russian interference in Catalonia

A Civil Guard commander files a lawsuit against the socialist sewers

The term "sewers" refers to the actions of PSOE members in the Leire Díez case, in which the courts are investigating a scheme involving the obtaining of classified information, obstruction of justice, and influence peddling. This scheme aimed to hinder judicial investigations into socialist corruption and certain cases that were not to the government's liking. Today, Libertad Digital reports that a Civil Guard commander who was purged for investigating the Puigdemont and Putin ribbon has filed a lawsuit against this sewer. The commander in question is Colonel Daniel Baena, about whom the aforementioned media outlet states:

"He was a lieutenant colonel in the Civil Guard when he investigated the connections between Puigdemont and Putin. Between Junts and Russia at the height of the separatist coup. His reward came immediately: a full-blown separatist attack and the kick in the teeth to stop his investigation."

That commander investigated Russian interference in Catalonia during the 2017 coup

On June 4, Libertad Digital reported that Baena was one of Leire Díez's targets, along with other Civil Guard officers whose investigative work was proving inconvenient for the Socialists. Colonel Baena, now a colonel, states in a document addressed to the courts that he "carried out functions of directing judicial investigations related to the Catalan independentist process and its potential international connections, including the so-called Voloh case, which constituted a highly relevant criminal investigation."

The Voloh case was opened by the Civil Guard in 2020 and brought to light contacts between the Catalan government and representatives of Putin's dictatorship. In relation to this investigation, the now deceased Fernando Lázaro published an article in El Mundo on October 28, 2020, indicating that those arrested in the case boasted that Russia offered 10,000 soldiers and financial aid to Catalan separatism"Those arrested in the so-called Operation Volhov are believed to be part of a perfectly organized network, according to sources in the Civil Guard, who also link these businessmen to Junts per Catalunya and ERC. They are also investigating whether funds were diverted from this network of businessmen to Belgium for the upkeep of former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont."

At that time, the Republican Left of Catalonia (ERC) was already a parliamentary partner of the PSOE, and this issue became a problem for Pedro Sánchez's government. What happened a few months later foreshadowed what would come a few years later. In May 2022, instead of ordering the National Intelligence Center (CNI) to thoroughly investigate this Russian interference in Spain, Pedro Sánchez decapitated the CNI to appease the separatists. The most astonishing thing is that this controversial decision was made by the government the day after Puigdemont himself admitted to these contacts with Russia.

Thus continued an operation by the socialist leadership to grant impunity to the perpetrators of the 2017 coup, an operation already initiated in 2021 with the pardons granted by the government to the coup plotters despite their showing no remorse. The operation continued with the amnesty granted by Sánchez to the coup plotters, after a judge opened the door to accusing Puigdemont of treason for those contacts with Putin's dictatorship prior to the 2017 coup.

The erasure of Russian interference in Catalonia through amnesty for separatists

The Sánchez government used the amnesty for its separatist allies to erase all traces of that Russian plot, an operation that was openly confirmed in November 2024 when the Minister of Justice, Félix Bolaños, stated: "there has been no Russian plot in support of Catalan separatism". His statement openly contradicted the evidence found by the Civil Guard. The minister's argument was that, adhering to judicial processes, "one cannot speak" of the existence of such a plot, a display of colossal cynicism, since judicial investigations had already revealed this interference. If the courts stopped investigating it, it was because the amnesty approved by the government blocked any further investigation.

With that shameful operation, Sánchez did Putin's tentacles in Spain a great favor, leaving them in the shadows and granting them absolute impunity under his amnesty law. Now we know that one of the Civil Guard commanders who investigated that Russian plot was a target of the socialist sewers, so the courts may have to address this issue once again, much to the chagrin of Sánchez's government, which committed a tremendous infamy to cover up a Russian attempt to destabilize Spain and undermine its national unity. One has to wonder if those who should now be accused of treason are those who carried out that operation to conceal Russian interference in Catalonia, starting with Sánchez himself.
