Spain sends its aircraft carrier to Turkey to help the victims of the earthquakes

Spanish military aid to Turkey due to Monday's earthquakes has been extended in the last few hours with the dispatch of two naval units to that country.

On Tuesday, the Spanish Ministry of Defense announced that the aircraft carrier "Juan Carlos I" L-61, with 500 marines on board, and the amphibious assault ship "Galicia" L-51, had been sailing since Monday bound for Turkey, "to the area affected by the earthquake, in order to help in the rescue and rescue tasks". Both ships are part of the Dédalo 23 Aeronaval Amphibious Group deployed in January in the Mediterranean Sea for some exercises.

These Spanish Navy resources join the soldiers of the Military Emergency Unit (UME) and civilian firefighters from Madrid sent on Monday, as well as the soldiers of the Spanish Army deployed in the Incirlik Air Base, in the affected area, in Operation Support for Turkey, an operation that began in 2014 with which Spain deployed a battery of Patriot anti-aircraft missiles in that country against the threat of ISIS. The Dédalo 23 Air-Naval Amphibious Group fleet, deployed by Spain in January in the Mediterranean and is now coming to support Turkey.
