As I told you a few months ago, this blog began its journey as a literary hobby, twenty years ago.
Over the years I have linked many websites on the blog's links page. Over time I update them, as many of the linked sites have disappeared. Of the first sites I linked, one still exists: it is called "A media voz" (In a whisper). Its domain was registered in 2002, so it is at least 22 years old. The purpose of this site is to collect poems in Spanish.
"A media voz" has a curious history. Its author was a Colombian woman, Graciela Henao Londoño, born in Manizales, Colombia, in April 1939. Graciela was a physiotherapist, a job she did until November 2012, a few months before she died in January 2013. The website explains how Graciela came up with the idea of creating it:
"In 1998 she was diagnosed with carcinoma in her right eye, a diagnosis she faced with courage; and as therapy she dedicated herself to the creation of this page - under the pseudonym "Grace" - thus becoming an expert on this subject that she was passionate about since she was a child; and at the same time continuing with her professional work. It was a life dedicated to serving and enjoying poetry."
To date, "A media voz" contains poems by 707 authors, both Spanish-speaking poets and poets in other languages, although in the latter case the collected poems are translations into Spanish.
The design of this website is simple and elegant, and it has remained that way for many years. I have enjoyed some very good times reading this site, and if you like poetry I recommend it. Its URL is amediavoz.com. Let these lines serve as a tribute to its author.
