The exchange of favors between the PSOE and ETA takes another step towards an infamous end

The Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) and the terrorist group ETA have maintained a perverse relationship for years that continues to this day.

ETA was not defeated: the PSOE prevented it with a perverse pact with the terrorists

Sánchez and Bildu agree to remove ETA from the European list of terrorist groups

El Debate publishes today the latest rotten fruit of that relationship: "Sánchez makes a deal with Bildu to remove ETA from the European Union's list of terrorist organizations". The terrorist group ETA has been on that list since it was first published in 2001. According to El Debate, "what the Government has agreed to is not to 'renew' ETA's presence on this list".

The exchange of favors between the PSOE and ETA during Zapatero's government

The PSOE and Pedro Sánchez's government have been doing favors for ETA for years. Over time, we have learned about some of these favors, and others have had public and notorious effects for some time. Let us remember that Zapatero's socialist government repeatedly lied to the Spanish people about its agreements with ETA, claiming that it was not a political negotiation. Today we know that the Zapatero government offered money to ETA if it would end terrorism (that is, giving in to blackmail using the money of all Spaniards) and alerted that criminal gang about an operation against it in France.

Let us also recall that in June 2011, a Constitutional Court controlled by the socialists legalized ETA's political wing, EH Bildu, overturning a final ruling by the Supreme Court which stated that this electoral brand "has been established as a simulated and fraudulent channel to circumvent the banning" of Batasuna. In this way, the socialists opened the doors of the institutions to the political wing of ETA, laying the groundwork for later making deals with them - which is what Sánchez has done - without ever having condemned the 853 murders or any other terrorist act by ETA.

The favors the Sánchez government has given to that terrorist group

Under Sánchez, this exchange of favors between the PSOE and ETA has steadily increased in its infamy. The Sánchez government has refused to punish tributes to ETA terrorists, tolerating hundreds of events dedicated to glorifying these murderers. In 2022, the PSOE voted against the EU investigating these murders as crimes against humanity, a measure finally approved by the European Parliament. The aim of the socialists' position was clear: to allow the 379 unsolved ETA murders to legally expire and thus prevent them from being investigated judicially, leaving the murderers who committed them unpunished.

The ultimate goal of all these infamies becomes very clear when you see the statements of Bildu, which legitimizes the imprisoned ETA murderers by calling them "political prisoners", that is, presenting the numerous crimes they have committed as a mere political action for which they should not have any criminal reproach.

The ultimate goal of this exchange of favors: to rewrite the history of ETA

In the end, this will lead to the whitewashing of ETA, rewriting its history so that we forget what it really was. Sánchez and the PSOE already took a clear step in that direction in 2022, with a "democratic memory law" that covers up to 1983 but omits the crimes of ETA and GRAPO, two far-left terrorist groups that murdered Hundreds of people during the years of the transition to democracy. It was then that the PSOE began to rewrite the history of ETA, to such an extent that Sánchez has repeatedly expressed his annoyance at the continued discussion of this criminal gang: "ETA ceased to exist, except for the People's Party and Vox", he said in May 2023. Meanwhile, the socialist leader continues to talk about Francoism, which disappeared half a century ago.

Sánchez is not only doing this because he believes that anything goes to stay in power, which has been his main concern for years, but also because his far-left partners have always been very understanding of ETA terrorism. Let us recall that in 2013, the founder of Podemos, Pablo Iglesias Turrión, praised ETA in a talk at a "herriko taberna" (the usual meeting places of supporters of that criminal gang) and in 2014 he compared ETA with the Popular Party, a democratic party whose members were murdered by that terrorist group. In 2023, Podemos justified Bildu's inclusion of ETA terrorists on its electoral lists by claiming it is "a democratic party." Now we know where all those vile acts led.
