For years, the left has held an ideological hegemony in many universities that has ended up creating monsters.
We recently learned of the case of Jason Arday, a Cambridge University professor who committed plagiarism and lied about various academic and sporting achievements, which led him to become, at the age of 37, the youngest Black professor at that British academic institution. Arday was found dead in his flat in south London, nine days after resigning amid the scandal. The facts seem to indicate that Arday couldn't bear the pressure and decided to take his own life. It's a very sad end to a case of deception in which he wasn't the only one, nor the main culprit.
Arday's deception would not have been possible if certain universities had not chosen to submit to a perverse ideology that considers academic rigor to be sacrificed on the altar of political correctness and a distorted idea of diversity, according to which the principle of equality must be disregarded when evaluating the work of "racialized" people—a term coined by the left to refer to all people who are not white.
It goes without saying that in the United Kingdom, there have been Black university professors for many years who have obtained their positions on their own merits, through effort and the pursuit of excellence, without resorting to any kind of favoritism. To believe that people of other races should benefit from preferential treatment to achieve the same results as white people indicates a deeply racist mentality, a mentality according to which a Black or Asian person cannot achieve the same academic results as a white person on their own, and therefore needs extra help.
It is astonishing to see that the left has defended this racist thesis while boasting of defending "equality." Without this deception, cases like Arday's would never have existed, but many have been seduced by an ideology that believes people should be valued and judged by their race and not by their merits, accusing white people of being "privileged" simply because of the color of their skin and making people of other races believe they are victims of structural racism for which they must be compensated, even if they have never suffered any kind of discrimination because of their skin color.
One of the basic principles of liberal democracy is equality before the law, which establishes that no one can be discriminated against because of their race, among other possible reasons. The left has spent many years distorting this principle, degrading democracy and fueling racial conflicts where none existed, leading societies to a grotesque situation in which this principle of equality has been mercilessly trampled. This racist left is responsible for cases like that of Jason Arday, which had a tragic end. An end that reveals more than just the terrible consequences for someone who has lived a great lie when it is exposed to the world. What we are seeing now is the implosion of this racist left, brought about by its own aberrant theories. One day, society should hold this left accountable for the terrible human cost of its folly.
