The Vladimir Putin regime is using Twitter to broadcast its infamous propaganda and justify its aggression against the Ukrainian people.
Twitter censored Trump even though he rejected the assault on Capitol
Last year, Twitter kicked then-US President Donald Trump off its network, an unprecedented move for a sitting democratic president. Twitter justified the censorship of Trump's account in this way: "we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence", referring to the assault on the Capitol that occurred on January 6, 2021. It was a false accusation: Trump had He rejected violence and asked for respect for the law and the Police from his Twitter account, before it was censored.
Twitter's tolerance towards the Taliban and the dictators of Cuba and Venezuela
The double standard of the American company was already evident with Twitter's tolerance towards the dictators of Cuba and Venezuela and towards the Afghan Taliban, while they are dedicated to violating human rights and using violence against their opponents. But the case of Russian aggression against Ukraine is proving even more scandalous.
The American social network keeps the official accounts of the Russian government open
Today, almost two days after the start of the invasion, a href="https://twitter.com/kremlinrussia_e" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Twitter keeps the official account of Vladimir Putin (@kremlinrussia_e) open and even verified, in English, and another one in Russian. It also maintains open and verified other Russian government accounts, such as its Ministry of Foreign Affairs (with accounts in English, Russian, Spanish and Arabic), in addition to the accounts of the various Russian embassies. As an example, the account of the Russian Embassy in Spain is a real propaganda page for that regime. To these accounts must be added those of the official propaganda media of the Russian government, RT and Sputnik News, in several languages.
Ukraine asks Twitter to close these official Russian accounts
One wonders if Twitter considers the assault on Capitol Hill more serious than the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and why it censored Trump, despite condemning the violence, while giving the Putin regime a free hand to justify its crimes against the Ukrainian people. This Thursday, the official Ukrainian Twitter account has asked users to ask that company to suspend official Russian accounts: "no place for an aggressor like Russia on Western social media platforms", the Ukrainian government has pointed out. "They should not be allowed to use these platforms to promote their image while brutally killing the Ukrainian people," it added.
