Despite the failed to launch its test flight on April 20, SpaceX's Starship is set to revolutionize the space race.
The fact of having a large and easily reusable rocket is not the only contribution made by Elon Musk's space company. SpaceX is bringing other innovations to rocket design. One of them is the ingenious separation system of the Starship ship and its Super Heavy propellant, designed to lighten the weight of the rocket and solve some problems generated by the separation systems used up to now, which in some cases generated space debris that could damage the rocket itself, and in others put the integrity of the rocket at risk.
SpaceX's separation system for the Starship and Super Heavy is surprisingly simple, and it will imply that the separation is done by rotating the rocket. Of course, it is yet to be tested. The Spanish aerospace engineer Sergio Hidalgo explains it in an interesting video published ago a few hours (the video is in Spanish, you can activate the automatic subtitles in English in the bottom bar of the player):
This video has been published simultaneously with another video from the Spanish channel Mission Control, which is complementary to Sergio Fidalgo's and tells us other curiosities about the Starship and the Super Heavy thruster:
Congratulations to the authors of both videos, it is a pleasure to see videos so well explained.
