NAVSTA Norfolk: a reportage on the world's largest warship base
The seven aircraft carriers that have been sunk after World War II

The largest of all the large US aircraft carriers is the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78). Its dimensions make it the second largest warship ever built, after the already retired USS Enterprise (CVN-65). And it is that the Ford has a length of 337 meters and a width of up to 78 meters on its flight deck. In service since July 22, 2017, the Ford is the first ship of its class and for the moment the only one in service (the next one, which will be the USS John F. Kennedy CVN-79, is scheduled to enter service in 2025).

On May 2, the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) began her first full-length deployment at the helm of the Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group (GRFCSG), which also includes the Ticonderoga-class missile cruiser USS Normandy (CG 60). and the Arleigh Burke-class destroyers USS Ramage (DDG 61), USS McFaul (DDG 74), and USS Thomas Hudner (DDG 116). In this deployment, Ford will join the 6th Fleet, which operates in the area of Europe and Africa, taking over from the aircraft carrier USS George H. W. Bush (CVN-77).

We can see here the departure of the Ford from the Norfolk Naval Base in a video published yesterday by the United States Navy:
