Cross of Burgundy: origin and history of the oldest of the flags of Spain

On the occasion of this day, there are in Spain acts of homage to the Fallen in different cemeteries of different religious denominations, and acts of tribute are also held in Spanish military detachments abroad. You can see some of the events held today here.

Honor demanded it and they obeyed,
The duty required them and they complied with it;
With their blood they signed the company,
With their effort the Homeland was enlarged.

They were big and strong, because they were
Faithful to the oath they pledged.
That's why, how brave they fought,
And as heroes they died.

For the Homeland to die was their destiny,
loving Spain, their eternal passion,
serve in the Armies, their vocation and fate.

They did not want to serve another Flag,
They did not want to walk another way,
They did not know how to live otherwise.
