The missions of the Armed Forces and the Spanish Constitution, Article 8.1

The Armed Forces of Spain have their missions defined in article eight, point one, of the Constitution in force since 1978:

"The mission of the Armed Forces, comprising the Army, the Navy and the Air Force, is to guarantee the sovereignty and independence of Spain and to defend its territorial integrity and the constitutional order."

According to Article 62 of the Constitution, the supreme command of the Armed Forces corresponds to H.M. the King.
