Kitsault, a perturbing town abandoned since 1983 but that seems recently evacuated

A common denominator of all ghost towns is that the traces of decades of abandonment are clearly visible.

Although the weather conditions of the place in question are not very harsh, the lack of maintenance of the buildings is beginning to take its toll on their appearance. This is not the case of Kitsault, a town in British Columbia, in western Canada. Like other towns in that part of the country, Kitsault was born as a mining town, in this case around a molybdenum deposit. The mining company built 100 homes, a recreation center, a movie theater, a hospital, a swimming pool and a shopping center. It seemed like the ideal place to live. Founded in 1979, Kitsault once had about 1,200 residents.

Due to the drop in molybdenum prices, the mine was closed and the inhabitants of Kitsault were evicted in 1983, when the town was only 18 months old. Thus, this town has been a ghost town for four decades, long enough for many of its structures to remain in ruins. However, Kitsault presents an unusual appearance, since it seems to have recently been evacuated. Everything is intact, in good condition, as if its inhabitants had suddenly vanished just a few days ago.

The cause of this peculiarity of Kitsault is no mystery. On the one hand, the town is very isolated and that helps prevent vandalism from attacking its buildings as happens in other ghost towns. On the other hand, the mining company that built the town hired a person to take care of it during the summers, which has helped keep it in good condition. Also, in 2004 the town was bought by Canadian businessman Krishnan Suthanthiran for 5 million dollars. He has spent 2 million on keeping the town intact , as it was when it was abandoned, in the hope of turning it into the terminal of a gas pipeline.

You can see some screenshots from the video here. This is the kitchen of one of the homes. Everything is very clean, as if it were a newly built house waiting for a buyer.

The local daycare. There are toys on the shelves, as if children were going to enter at any moment. The last children who set foot in this place will already be in their forties.

The supermarket. The empty shelves are the only thing that indicates that this is uninhabited. Everything is very clean.

The local pub. It hasn't received customers for four decades but it looks like it just opened.
