Today Spain is stunned by the latest escape of a fugitive from justice who has entered the country after announcing it publicly.
A display of impunity broadcast on state TV channel
This morning, Carles Puigdemont, the ringleader of the 2017 separatist coup in Catalonia and the subject of an arrest warrant issued by the Supreme Court, made an exhibition of impunity by arriving in Barcelona, giving a public speech that was broadcast on Televisión Española, the state TV channel that all Spaniards pay for and that Pedro Sánchez's government uses as its own propaganda outlet.
After this display of impunity, carried out without any Catalan Police agent arresting him (that region has transferred powers in matters of security), Puigdemont has fled again, in response to which the Catalan Police have organised a supposed search operation which it suspended after a few hours and reactivated a few hours later.
A humiliation to all Spaniards by a government allied with a fugitive from justice
What has happened today is a humiliation for all Spaniards, who know that they cannot run a red light if they do not want to be fined and that they cannot make a mistake when filing their tax return because they would be fined, but they see that the government is allowing the return to Spain and a new escape of a fugitive from justice, even providing him with public television to broadcast a speech, simply because this fugitive is a political ally of the government.
Sánchez and Puigdemont exhibit a pact of impunity
In any other European country, this would mean at least the dismissal of the Minister of the Interior, who is the person most responsible for the security of the Spanish people. But in Spain, nothing of the sort will happen, because Sánchez and Puigdemont have an impunity pact, signed in exchange for the separatists' support for the re-election of the socialist leader as president of the government.
It is an agreement that has been embodied in illegal pardons for unrepentant separatist criminals who announced that they would break the law again, something scandalous considering that we are talking about people convicted of serious crimes of sedition and corruption. Later, Sanchez granted an unconstitutional amnesty to Puigdemont and his accomplices, an act of corruption whose purpose is to erase the crimes committed as if they had not existed, all in exchange for the support of Puigdemont's party for Sánchez's re-election. It is one of the largest and most blatant acts of political corruption ever seen in Spain.
Sanchez ordered the CNI not to monitor the separatists
What happened today is explained by this pact of impunity. Sanchez went so far as to order the National Intelligence Centre (CNI) not to monitor separatism in any way, allowing his political allies not only to break the law, but also to prepare new actions against the State with absolute impunity. This is what explains why Puigdemont returned to Spain today, gave a speech and fled again without being stopped by any police.
Sanchez destroys equality before the law and leaves national security in tatters
With this pact of impunity, Sanchez has not only destroyed the right of all Spaniards to equality before the law, granting penal privileges to his political allies, something that should be intolerable in a democratic country. In addition, he has left Spain's national security and international image in tatters, something that all the wrongdoers inside and outside our borders will take note of. And all because Sanchez is willing to remain in power at any price, sacrificing everything to his personal interest, without caring about humiliations to the Spanish people like today's and the damage he is doing to Spain.
Given these facts, Puigdemont is not the only one who should be arrested and brought before a court: Sánchez should accompany him, for failing to comply with his legal duty to comply with and enforce the Constitution and, above all, for a possible crime of omission of the duty to prosecute crimes. Puigdemont's new escape cannot be explained without Sánchez's complicity, and as Puigdemont's accomplice, the full weight of Justice must also fall on Sánchez.
