The Popular Party (PP) voted yesterday in favour of a bill that once again serves to establish a double standard.
Sánchez once again resorts to Francoism as a means of distraction
This proposal (You can see its parliamentary dossier here) was presented by the socialist group on September 6 (in the midst of the scandals that splash Pedro Sánchez through his wife and his brother, and in an evident attempt to distract the attention of public opinion), and aims to reform the law that regulates the right of association in order to outlaw associations that praise Francoism.
A law to penalize the praise of Francoism...
Specifically, the text of the reform proposed by the PSOE (can be read here) aims to dissolve any association that carries out "activities that constitute an apology for Francoism, either by praising the 1936 coup d'état or the subsequent dictatorship or by praising its leaders, when there is contempt and humiliation of the dignity of the victims of the 1936 coup d'état, the Spanish war or Francoism, or direct or indirect incitement to hatred or violence against them because of their status as such".
The law has been presented as an attempt to outlaw the Francisco Franco Foundation, but it will not be so easy, since to justify such outlawing it would have to be proven that the entity has belittled and humiliated the victims of that dictatorship.
... and that leaves the praise of communist dictatorships unpunished
The most striking thing about this PSOE bill is that the socialists intend to penalize any exaltation of Francoism, but leave unpunished the exaltation of other dictatorships, and particularly of socialist and communist dictatorships, such as those of Cuba, Venezuela, Vietnam, Laos, China, North Korea and Eritrea. Communist dictatorships have killed more than 100 million people, but they have admirers in Pedro Sánchez's own government.
Sanchez and his allies refused to condemn the crimes of the communist dictatorships
That is the only reason why this law aims to persecute admirers of Franco but not admirers of much worse dictators, such as Lenin, Stalin or Mao. In fact, we must not forget that in March 2021 and during a vote also carried out in Congress, Sánchez and his allies voted against the European condemnation of the crimes of nazism and communism, refusing to condemn crimes of genocide. It is the same left that now wants to persecute admirers of Franco by appealing to "democratic memory".
Only Vox voted against the socialist initiative: the PP supported it
The consideration of this bill was approved by 314 votes in favour and 33 against (in addition, 3 deputies did not take part in the vote). You can see here what each deputy voted for. As has happened before with the ideological laws of the left, the Popular Party supported this socialist proposition and only Vox voted against it. Curiously, the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, was one of the three deputies who did not participate in the vote (the other two were the socialist Pedro Sánchez and the communist Yolanda Díaz).
So, if this bill is approved, if in Spain communist organisations are given free rein to praise their dictatorships and humiliate their victims, while anyone who does the same with Franco's dictatorship will be subject to persecution, it is because the PP continues to insist on being the left's useful idiot, in this case helping socialists and communists to impose their biased and sectarian vision of history on us all.
Meanwhile, Sánchez allows hundreds of tributes to ETA terrorists
Finally, we must remember that the same socialists who demand that the apology for Francoism be punished are those who grant total impunity to hundreds of tributes to ETA terrorists every year, tributes that are being organized by their parliamentary allies. They are also the same socialists who seek to legalize the crime of glorifying terrorism, claiming that it is "freedom of speech." For the left, dictators, terrorists and criminals only deserve rejection if they are not socialists or communists. That is why Sánchez and his allies have systematically refused to condemn the crimes of communism, and why the PSOE maintains cordial relations with the Communist Party of China, the sole party of the world's largest dictatorship, an anti-democratic regime that has murdered millions of people.
